So, today I wanna share with you a little about the set of characters from Animus. This will be a quick post in which I’ll share how far I currently am at the development of these characters, since I’ll be soon working on a redesign for some of them, specially Alma. I also want to show you how far from their first sketches some of these characters have already deviated.
Alma, the weaver:
The main character of this story, as we have already discussed. Not unlike all of the folk in Arceria, she shares a deep connection with the magic inherent in the land, but she seems not to be able to channel this properly into spells. She is a skilled weaver and craftswoman, but the fear of disappoint her mother and mentor and the feeling of not belonging are frequently haunting her mind.
Demetria, the mother:
Alma’s mother and a skilled sorceress, kind and caring of their people’s traditions and knowledge. Her protective posture towards Alma might hide something…
Aco, the farmer:
A cheerful young man, good friend for many of the inhabitants of the small village of Arceria, the son of a cotton farmer. He’s become friends with Alma and enjoys to know that the cotton from his father’s farm will be ably woven into her beautiful tapestries.
Yaga, the witch:
An old exiled witch who lives in a mysterious shack in the forest, marked by her own magic.
Miran, the hunter:
A member of the mysterious army of invaders, with great marksmanship skill, but a curious, unquiet mind that can make him miss a sure shot…
Vereor, the leader:
The bold leader of the invaders, a somber general and a proficient strategist. Both his means and ends might seem shady, but his will won’t ever be bent from his goal.
Leya the soldier:
Also a member of the army that takes Arceria overnight, a diligent and skilled soldier with a simplathy for Miran and a never yielding loyalty to their cause.
If I had to choose one of them to clearly show how much a character can change, that would be Aco, the farmer. At the first version of the story script, he was in fact a kind warrior, a soldier of some sort, and he was also and older character. Much of his empathetic and kind personality remains, but he’s gone through some of the most drastic changes from all of the character cast.
