Widow Basquiat is terribly amazing. Like their relationship is raw, definitely unconventional, and, given that it's Basquiat, understandable. I would never have a relationship like they did (nor would i even try to do the hard core drugs they did), but this memoir of Jean-Michel and Suzanne provides some insight to why and how he painted/acted. It's not perfect love, indefinitely, but it seemed (half the time) to work for them in a way. I'm not praising either of them for their drug use or the way their relationship worked, but I am more interested (than i already was) in Basquiat's work. I learned a few things about why he did certain things in his art and Galla's, and went back to look at those same paintings. Not to mention that the book pinpoints on polyandry, racism, prejudice, and mental/physical abuse. And also, police brutality (this is very relevant and very current, even as this was happening in the 80s). I definitely recommend the book to modern art lovers, Appreciators of Basquiat's art, and people why are just interested in seeing different sides to different kinds of relationships. It doesn't even take that long to read. If you get into it, you'll finish it in a couple hours or before day's end.
