#widow ghost

So remember back in January when we talked about the “Widow Ghost” that was killing men in a village? Well, we’ve got an update to the story and it’s, how do you say…weird. So if you don’t know what a “Widow Ghost” is or have forgotten, here’s a brief recap. A widow ghost is a spirit of an angry female spirit in Thailand that is said to target young, healthy men and kill them. Why? I don’t know, maybe the last guy she dated when she was alive said her cooking sucked. (That’s my official head-canon…) Legend says that on the night the men die, the female ghost appears to them in the form of a beautiful, seductive woman who fulfills his sexual desires, and then kills him in the process by stealing his soul. (I guess it’s not too bad of a death.) A spirit medium was brought in and they advised villagers to hang a red shirt outside their house to ward off the evil spirit. Well, flash-forward to present time, and the widow ghost is still killing men. (You mean a simple red shirt wasn’t enough to ward off an evil spirit? Madness!) Well, the villagers have had enough of the unnecessary killings and have now come up with a new way to ward off the widow ghost. This time, instead of hanging red shirts outside their homes, they’ve built a 2 foot long phallus statue in the middle of the village and from now on, each year the women of the village will perform a ceremony that includes them sprinkling holy water on the statue. (what…the…hell) Soooo….this is their new way of warding off the ghost? A dick statue? Um, are we sure this is an effective way to get rid of the spirit or is this just a way for the men of the village to get their kicks by watching the women throw water on a stone phallus? Whatever the case may be, I think we can all agree that none of us saw this coming. (…Phrasing!) So, what do you guys think? Will this…statue, finally rid the village of their pesky widow ghost problem or have they all lost their minds?

I'm here to announce that a sequel series to the smash erotic drama series "Red Shoe Diaries" is in the works called, "Red Shirt Diaries". This time, instead of erotic stories being presented by David Duchovny, the show will feature people being killed by an invisible female ghost. And the only way to ward off the evil ghost is by wearing a red shirt. The show will air on HBO on...what? The show really isn't being made? Oh...fuck. Well then, how about we get this post going before something even worse than that intro happens! OK, so all jokes aside, today we're going to fly on over to Thailand to look into some strange deaths that many believe are the work of a "widow ghost". A "widow ghost", or pee mae mai, also known locally as the "lai thai" (sudden unexplained death syndrome) is an angry, female ghost that is believed to take the lives of healthy, young men. Since last month, this spirit has supposedly taken the lives of 10 men in Tambon Tha Sawang. Some were sleeping, while others were actually walking and just dropped dead. Doctors have said that they all died from respiratory failure. A spirit medium was soon called by the village and told everyone that a "widow ghost" was the culprit. They advised villagers to hang a red shirt outside their house to ward off the evil spirit. Since then, many people have hung red shirts outside their homes in fear that the ghost might strike if they don't do so. Medical experts believe that "Sudden Unexplained Nocturnal Death Syndrome" (SUNDS) way be the cause of these sudden deaths and not an angry female spirit. There are also rumors that the ghost is in other, nearby districts such as Chom Phra and Tha Tum.

"But mom, that's my favorite shirt! Why are you hanging it outside?" "Shut up billy, it's so a ghost doesn't kill you while you sleep!" So, an angry female spirit huh? I would make a "it sounds like my ex" joke, but first I'd need to have an ex...or a love life for that matter...(*cries*). But let's skip the jokes and get right to it. Is there really a ghost that's killing these seemingly healthy men? Uh, probably not. It was reported that between 1983 - 1990, 230 seemingly healthy Thai men suddenly died due to SUNDS. And I think at the time people wanted to blame something for their sudden deaths so they created the "widow ghost". It is odd that it was only men, but I don't think an angry female ghost is to blame. So those are my thoughts, but what are yours? Is there really a female ghost that's killing men or is it something more natural like SUNDS?
