Hi, I recently picked some wild sagebrush on a castleground that I later found out used to be a castle fort for the civil war and many men died there. The sage was meant for cleansing but now I'm not sure it's safe to use bcus of residual energy?
First of all, if you haven’t, make sure to check up on the legality of gathering this stuff. If it’s a state park or a threatened species or something you might not technically be allowed. It could be that no one cares, but hey, you don’t want a park ranger on your back in the future if you can avoid it.
As for whether it’d be effective to use stuff taken from a battlefield for cleansing, I’d personally say it’s on a case by case basis. I’ve been to some Civil War battlefields where everything was pretty chill, and some where...it really wasn’t. And so I’m not comfortable making a blanket statement when it comes to plants taken from them, or weighing in on a place I’ve never visited.
I’d go with your gut on this one. Did you ask permission to take what you gathered? Did you leave an offering in return? That generally helps. Did you get a sense of being unwelcome while you were there? Then yeah, maybe not a good sign.
But that’s just my personal take as a spiritworker. YMMV.
Even if you don’t end up feeling comfortable using the sagebrush for cleansing, there might be some other necromantic use you could come up with.
