Remembering Scott Cunningham Today is the birthday of Scott Cunningham, and it is fitting for so many of us to recognize the impact his books have made on our lives, and his impact on Wicca as well. There were books on Wicca and Witchcraft that had some information for Wiccans without a Coven, but Scott’s “Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner” was the first written for them, and what a great book it is! Inner Circle Sanctuary still suggests this remarkable book to people interested in Wicca, as well as his “Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs.” Scott was born on June 27, 1956 in Michigan, but grew up and spent his life in San Diego. He received Wicca training from a Priestess in his High School, room mated with Donald Michael Kraig, helped produce Raymond Buckland’s Witchcraft video, and of course, wrote and starred in his own “Herb Magic” video. This excellent video remains part of the Inner Circle Sanctuary curriculum. Scott Cunningham died far too young, on March 28, 1993. In his short incarnation, he affected positively many of our lives, and brought many people to Wicca. He gave many the courage (and know-how) to practice Wicca on their own, to live openly as a gay man, and to inform an ignorant public.
