Horses are so expensive. While I’m sure someone has told you this before, or maybe you’ve heard it in passing, I really mean it this time. It’s not that they’re not worth it in some way. Don’t get me wrong, I love my little bug. She makes me smile. But in all reality, she’s a large pet. And oftentimes, I have more of a connection with my dog (I’m just being real here, people). And my dog-knock on wood- is much more low maintenance medically. But seriously- have you gotten the point yet? They’re EXPENSIVE. She tore her eyelid off last year. Her EYELID. Who does that? In total-oh god, I’d have to look and I don’t want to go into cardiac arrest-that cost me well over $1,000. This time around her eye was ulcerated for months, requiring round-the-clock care, and constant meds and check ups from the vet. Then, guess what. She lost the eye anyway. And we had to do surgery to remove it. Total? Oh man. Idk. Around $3,500, maybe a little less. I wish I was joking! I wish I was joking even more about how little I can sustainably afford it. But there’s no horse-repo system. I can’t defer on this mortgage. I’ll die trying to pay this. I gotta pay it somehow. \\ My biggest thought is: before you just go buying a horse, before you get your kids involved in riding and indulging them in the idea of owning, think about all the things that can happen. I wish I had known. Really really. These surgeries and bills I’ve accrued are but a fraction of all the upkeep costs and medical bills I’ve paid on this horse within her lifetime. I could probably buy a house by now if I hadn’t spent all that money. Am I little bitter? Sometimes, yeah. I mean just what have you been reading? Haha! But I’m grateful for the childhood I had growing up around horses, and I’ve enjoyed my time with her. But it is not sustainable or financially responsible for me to own a horse who unpredictably costs so much! \\ #cantturnbacknow #ohwell #moneymoneymoney #horses #medicalbills #vetbills #whyislifesoexpensive #anotsoveryhappyending

Uhggg my dog jumped out the cats window again when I was in the shower and after looking for him for an hour where he usually is I called the animal shelter and $60 later he is home safe and I'm even more broke than I was. Looks like I won't be taking your collar off for you anymore shit head.
