If you just let me *clears throat* vent a little bit:
WHO WROTE THAT SHIT?!
YOU DON'T LET A CHARACTER GO THROUGH AND LEARN SO MUCH JUST TO FUCKING KILL THEM
WHAT MESSAGE DOES THAT SEND?! WHAT'S THE POINT?! THAT THE CHARACTER FREAKING DIES HAPPY?!
I really get the drama, the supposed payoff, BUT WHY NOT SUBVERT THE EXPECTATIONS?
Yes, bad things happen. Every family has to go through this kind of tragedy once in a while, or whatever your interpretation of that trope is - we already know that. This could've been different. And now we're gonna hear how it completes Izzy's character arc and so on... Is it about Blackbeard dying with Izzy because he was a big part of the legend's creation? Can't they really just coexist and heal? Can you imagine Izzy actually becoming the captain while Ed and Stede stay on land?
I don't know, I just... I just really hate this trope...
