On his album The Heist, Macklemore has a song called Ten Thousand Hours, where he shares his perspective on his career as a rapper. Referencing his education in art, he declares that “the greats weren’t great because at birth they could paint, the greats were great because they paint a lot.” In an earlier verse, he mentions Malcolm Gladwell, author of Outliers, a book that popularized the idea that with 10,000 hours of practice we can master any skill.
