WHP13 MIX 009 /// ETHERWOOD
favourite
For many, Ben Pearce is a name synonymous with his breakout hit ‘What I Might Do’, a genre-spanning, deep house anthem that dominated club floors across the world in 2012, and shot to number one in the all-genre charts on Beatport and is still in the Shazam top twenty one year later. This brought instant support from the likes of Jamie Jones, Solomun, Pete Tong and Annie Mac who played the track repeatedly on BBC Radio One and the track went on to go Platinum in mainland Europe. However Ben is anything but a one-hit-wonder. A hugely talented underground DJ first-and-foremost who's ability to work with a range of musical genres have propelled him into clubs such as Fabric (London) Sub Club (Glasgow), In:Motion (Bristol), Warehouse Project (Manchester), Shine (Belfast), Junk (Southampton), Air (Amsterdam), Digital (Newcastle), Kassette (Istanbul), Last Resort (Miami) and to festivals such as Glastonbury (UK), Hideout (Croatia), Pukkelpop (Belgium) and Parklife Festival in his native Manchester. He’s also becoming increasingly known for his remixing abilities, the coming year will see him reworking the likes of Le Youth and Redlight. The first part of 2014 will see Ben continue to release original material and remixes, whilst continuing a busy global touring schedule. The bedrock for his future production output is Manchester based Purp & Soul record label, for which Ben acts as both label-boss and A&R. With existing releases from young UK house innovators like Harry Wolfman, Real Connoisseur and 2ndSun, it’s shaping up to be one of the UK’s most exciting up and coming underground imprints. As British house music expands its horizons into the charts, Ben is sticking firmly to his underground roots whilst continuing to make music that transcends the confines of any one particular genre, promising some truly exciting times ahead. Maribou State and Pedestrian join forces on a very special WHP13 mix, entitled 'Two Routes To One City'. "We wanted to create a mix that could act as a road map for anyone travelling from a rural area into the city. We captured some of the ambience that reflects this with various fields recordings, and used music that we thought captured the sights and sounds of the journey. A fitting soundtrack for anyone on route to Warehouse Project on the 1st of November."
