You can wear white RIGHT now. Yes, even as the leaves change and we consume all things pumpkin there is a place for your favorite white wardrobe stoppers to make an appearance. I am sure that this advice seems strange coming from a southern woman who grew up following the whites away after Labor Day rule, but, let's be honest, if you live in the south or anywhere near it like Maryland, then you will rarely wear anything white that isn't a dress or shorts between Memorial Day and Labor Day,  it is just too damn hot. This leaves your fantastic white jeans and that totally trendy white blazer hanging in your closet waiting for the right day with little to no humidity that may never come. So, wear it now, just pair it right :)

Here are some guidelines for Fall white-wearing:

1) Pair white with darker colors. Keep the white out of your out-of-season bin but put that coral top and those teal sandals away. We all love summer but it is over y'all. Pairing white with deep red smoking slipper, cognac boots, or your favorite fall jacket with help you embrace autumn. You want to fall into Fall and not look as if you are ready to catch your first Caribbean cruise to warmer weather, unless of course you are, in which case I am jealous.

  2) Layer with white. Even if the top layer is a white casual jacket or blazer, people expect and actually look forward to layering in the fall. And, if you feel any old ladies staring you down for your fashion "faux pas" simply slide that little white wonder right off. No harm, no foul, regardless of the audience.

  3) Drink white wine. I am a year round red drinker, I am loving Petite Syrahs at the moment, but after a disastrous evening with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and my brand new white Paige Peg Skinny jeans, even this girl is sipping Sauvignon Blanc when wearing white. One of these days, I hope to dye those sweet skinnies red but please don't hold your breath for that DIY blog. I love fashion but I have a LOT to DIY that has never been done. Take it from me and stick to white in this season of red.
