Boarding the bus wasn’t normally a problem for him. He did it every morning before he went to school, and he rode the same shuttle back home every afternoon. Well, not to his home directly. It dropped him off about a block away at the bus stop and then he had to walk-
But that’s not the point here. Jeez. Only a paragraph in and we’re already deviating from the plot with unnecessary narration that, honestly, isn’t even funny. Where was I? Oh, right. The bus. Or to be more specific, a new bus. Well, perhaps ‘new’ wasn’t necessarily the right word. In all honesty, it was considerably more rundown than the one he usually took, which only helped add to his anxiety towards the situation.
Normally, when he was on this side of town he was with Jou or Honda or Anzu and riding a different bus than he was used to wouldn’t be a problem for him at all, but this rickety old thing was another story. Well, he wouldn’t let it get to him too much. Even if his friends weren’t with him physically, they were always there in spirit! (Wow. Cheesy as hell. Who writes this stuff, anyway?) And speaking of spirits, if anything really bad happened, he was sure his other self would help out. But Yugi didn’t want to ask for his help or reassurance just yet. Today he was going to be brave all on his own!
He nodded to himself, adjusting where his school bag hung on his shoulder as he pushed his way through the crowded aisle as gently as possible, apologising every few seconds as he stepped on a stray shoe, but before too long he’d found a suitable little corner wedged between a few seats where he could look out the window to make sure he got off at the right stop. He let himself collapse against the wall with a relieved sigh, pulling an old Game Boy Color out of his pocket to play Tetris on as he waited.
However, soon after the start up sound, his attention was averted by a familiar voice and he quickly turned his attention to a girl around his age(?) who sat playing what sounded like a Professor Layton game on her Nintendo DS. Yugi’s expression immediately brightened, violet eyes sparkling with youthful excitement.
“Oh. hey! Is that Professor Layton? I love those games! I thought I was the only one who played them anymore!”
