ʙᴀᴄᴋꜱᴛᴏʀʏ

Eddie grew up with two loving parents, desperate to give him a larger family to grow up in. Both of his parents had grown up in large families and understood how it felt to be unconditionally loved beyond doubt. Eddie's parents were the only two members of their respective families left by the time that Eddie had turned thirteen. They also failed to conceive any further children. But, they loved him just the same.

Through high school, Eddie had a friend and playful rival in Roger, a kid just the year below him in school. They were two of the best performing students in sports, and often clashed heads as a result (though, never in a malicious or aggressive way). Little did Eddie know, his respect and admiration for Roger was also a crush on the younger boy, though at the time he was generally ignorant of the LGBTQ, and never processed it at the time. To this day, it’s something he hasn’t ever realised.

He was twenty one when his mother died, and twenty two when his father died of a broken heart. Then, he was alone. But, he'd taken on their dream of creating a large family and he planned to fulfil that. He'd attended the local college when he was nineteen to get a carpentry qualification, and there he met a woman who he loved dearly. They'd gotten married just before his mother died, wanting to ensure she could be there, and by the time his father died she was pregnant.

TW: Murder, death of a child

Eddie was twenty six when his wife and daughter were killed in a break-in. He'd been away from the ranch on business, and when he'd returned, he found their dead bodies in the living room, as if they were still waiting for him to arrive home. He didn't bother with romance after that, though he did begin to foster children to build the family he craved, and to give kids the lives they deserved.

Eddie works on a ranch, where his various children have the chance to grow up learning skills and life lessons, and if they choose to, they can continue to grow families of their own on his land. The land belonged to his father before him, and his grandfather before that, and over the years more and more property has been developed on the land for people to live in. 

Anyone who works on the ranch is one of Eddie's 'sons' but not all of them are his foster children. Not that you would be able to tell that from the outside. Nowadays, he doesn't do much manual labour, but he's always around.

Building

While perhaps he might not technically consider it to be a hobby, Eddie spends a lot of time building things. Whether that’s cribs, tables, houses or fences - he can build it all. Initially he did it to save money, and now he does it to teach any of his kids that want to learn the trade.

Hiking

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is Eddie’s. He loves to hike, the longer and more intimidating the trail the better. He doesn’t mind going alone, though company is always appreciated. His favourite part is when you reach the end of the trail and get to see the view that was waiting for you, and then sitting to have a picnic. He always brings a picnic.

Boxing

As a younger man, Eddie had been partial to boxing. Though he’s a gentle man, with tender hands for anyone who may need it and a shoulder to cry on, he also grew up with a lot of anger. Anger that there were people who suffered, and that he couldn’t actually do anything to help. So, he took up boxing. It’s not something that he does anymore, as he’s too old now, but he enjoyed it immensely.

☾ Darts An old man sport for old man Eddie. You can’t fault a guy for liking what he’s supposed to, and Eddie is a fairly casual enjoyer of darts. He isn’t particularly passionate about it, nor does he know any of the top players at the minute, but he watches it if it’s on.

☾ Dogs With the number of children that he managed to take in over the years, Eddie never managed to actually adopt a dog, but he loves them. He’d had a large german shepherd as a child, and he’d love to own one again, the ranch is certainly large enough for a dog to get their energy out.

☾ Family time It started out as a joke when the children were younger, having family time to force them to socialise and do something other than be miserable, and play video games, but as everyone in the family has gotten older, it’s become something they all enjoy.

☽ Unnecessary conflict Eddie resents people who feel the need to get into fights over simple things that are relatively easy to resolve, he finds it to be unnecessary and sometimes even pathetic, especially if it is amongst adults.

☽ Carpet floors A significant amount of his home used to be carpeted.. And then he had children. You know the end of this story.

☽ Waking up late Eddie has woken up early to begin work as soon as possible for his entire life, and though he doesn’t need to do this anymore, he hates to wake up late because he feels as though he is wasting valuable sunlight. A habit he can’t shake.

Marco was one of the most intelligent amongst his kids, though out loud Eddie would never compare them.

Teach is an odd case. Eddie knew he was troubled, and he had a penchant for a little bit of illegal activity, but he’d never turned away from a challenge and hardship never made a kid undeserving of love. So, he took Teach in. He turned out pretty different to the other kids, never truly gave in to the family way of life, but that was okay - he’d never ask more of his kids than they were willing to give. Still living at home, he was little trouble outwardly, though Eddie suspected that there was more beneath the surface, and he refused to let that change how he felt about his boy.

Eddie’s physical health has, historically, been very good. He enjoyed exercise and with working a manual labour job, he was never short of tasks to undertake to keep himself healthy. Having focused on healthy eating for the various children that he was raising, Eddie has become fairly good at cooking over the years. He’s hardly a five star chef, but it’s more than enough for his (not so) little family. He ensures that he eats three meals a day, and tries to make sure any of his kids do the same, though food is an issue that he doesn’t force.

He has graduation pictures for each and every one of his kids, and plenty of pictures of other important moments, and the not important ones too.

He’s kinda wacky

He acts like an excited kid, so you’re gonna have to hold him back

His love for adventure is like no other, so expect the unexpected

Aka: “Look at this creature I found” and the creature in his hands would be a poisonous snake

He’s all about doing good, so if he finds that you ever require something, he will drop everything (even though that may not have been the smartest idea)

I think his favorite dates are when you two are eating Oden together

But I think your favorite dates are when he’s not doing something dangerous and just cuddling with you

His hair is weird, so I think you two would try and stack as many things possible on his head, and when they all break you blame it on him (sorry, not sorry)

I think he would love to have a dog, even though he’s on a ship

The crew wouldn’t let him, but I think he would find a way to sneak one on… and then realize that animal wasn't a dog

He is also clueless, so if you’re upset with him (unlike the other two) he won’t notice. You’re gonna have to tell him

-he was beyond angry with his subordinates because they had let you get captured and taken, but once he had you back he was more concerned with if you were okay or not

-he brought you to that nice fluffy couch and pulled you into his lap

-it was completely silent while he ran his fingers through your hair and you stared up at him from your bridal sitting position in his lap, he kept his gaze fixated ahead of him and his brows furrowed

-he was trying to let go of the anger for the moment being and just remind himself that you're back and you're okay

-"doffy?" he turned his head down to glance at you, your hand reached up to cup his cheek and run your thumb over the crease formed by his scowl

-"are you okay?" you asked, he hummed in response and his hand raised taking yours in it gently

-he brought your hand to his lips placing a kiss to you knuckles before dropping your intertwined hands to rest in your lap

-his arm supporting your back pushed you up so he could dip his head down and kiss your forehead, pressing his forehead on yours thankful that everyone was too scared to enter the room so you had privacy

-he had marco check you for injuries immediately, once that was done you hid away in his cabin to get some sleep because you were both exhausted

-he sat against the headboard with the usual wires running across different body parts, you were careful to avoid them as you climbed onto him and layed against his chest looking up at him

-you couldn't tell how he was feeling, his expression was just.. plain- but after a few minutes you gave him a small smile and the same spread across his face

-his large hand reached up to stroke the back of your head and you melted against his chest making his heart swell

-"i'm sorry."

-"don't be, my love, i'm fine and it wasn't your fault." your lips ghosted over his chest in feathery kisses making the faintest blush appear on the man's face
