{For Elliot}

Olivia Benson had been waiting for a unit assignment for nearly two years after completing her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She had finished her year’s required training in the NYPD and had been working patrol in the meantime. She had applied for a position in a few different departments, but her heart had been set on SVU. She had taken her detective’s exam to make sure she was ready when they had an opening.

She thought she could do a lot of good there given her background. She understood victims. Knew the struggle, she had grown up with her mother and saw it everyday.

However, when she got the call that she was being assigned to SVU, she was still stunned. The unit had a reputation; the detectives within it were wither driven to serving their victims, or wound up there as a last resort. Olivia however, couldn’t wait to do her part.

After meeting with Captain Cragen, Olivia was brought out to the squad room to be introduced. “Guys, this is Olivia Benson, a new detective we just acquired.” He paused for a moment to let everyone catch up for a moment. “For now, I’m going to assign Elliot to being her partner. She’s been through all the training, she’ll just need a picture of how we do things around here.” He said turning to return to his office, leaving Olivia with the rest of the squad.

Approaching Elliot’s desk, Olivia decided it best to not let her nervousness show, she needed to be confident. “Hi. Elliot, right? I’m Olivia.” She said to introduce herself on a more one on one basis.

Olivia had a full life outside of her job. A steady boyfriend, friends. But that hadn’t changed the fact that she was so determined to be of use to this unit due to her own backstory.

"No. I'm not leaving you here. We're going home."

A scavenge mission gone wrong, and she ended up stuck on a roof, surrounded by walkers. Rick had been fast enough to jump off and run through the fences, but when he looked behind...she wasn't there with him.

The walkers were trying to reach her, making the small cabin start to crumble-

It made sense she told him to just go, since all the walkers were focused on her- but that was an option couldn't accept.

He had lost everyone. Everyone. There was only her left, and fuck, he wouldn't lose her. He was either taking her home or dying right there with her.

Determined and quickly, he ran through the ammo boxes and firearms supplies they had loaded their pickup before the mission went to shit- loaded an Ak-47, filled his pockets with ammo and ran back to the cabin, shooting the walkers, calling their attention, loading and reloading the weapon that was heating more and more between his palms.

He would knee, stand, look around, walk back and try guide the walkers horde away from the cabin. There were so many....but he knew it was only a matter of time until he shot them all.

Once he found an opening, he dashed back to where the cabin was, finishing the remaining walkers that still were trying to reach her.

"Come on, jump, I'll catch you. Let's get out of here!"

{ DATE NIGHT 🌆 } — Sender asks out receiver for a special Valentine’s Day date!

Olivia's heart skipped a beat as she opened the door to Elliot's knock. She had seen him dressed up so many times, but this was the first time he was dressed up for her. Her eyes softened as her lips curled up into a soft smile. "You look amazing," she told him, stepping out of her apartment and meeting him in the hall.

Her hand eased around his arm, linking their arms together so that their date could officially begin. "Happy Valentine's Day, Elliot." She leaned in and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek.

She didn't even know how they had found her. She had told very few people about the abuse. Never an adult. But apparently a child had told a child who... All the way down to the current little girl. Who may be the only option, because this man was scheming. 

She had chosen never to go to the police. It was complicated, the whole process, and she had told herself she had no proof, and by the time she wondered if she could report, she had heard about statutes of limitations and didn't even check to see if hers was up. 

She had checked when they called her in as a witness. It was. Plus, it had occurred in a different state.

That was part of what made it hard to prosecute, she was sure. He travelled to a new state, assumed a new identity, molested a bunch of girls, specifically ages 6-10, then, suddenly, and this had been the hardest part for her, disappeared without a trace.

At the time, she wanted him to show up again. Now, she didn't. 

She walked up to the first man she saw, and tried to smile, but realized that didn't fit the situation and stopped. "Uh. Hi. I'm Betty Ross. I was called in on the... A case?" She didn't want to say his name. Knew she would have to. "Oh, it's... Elizabeth Ross. Sorry." Not yet.

Her heart barreled in her chest, pacing through the kitchen in hopes that everything was ready. Dinner, just dinner. But it’s not just anymore. No, this is the first dinner where she introduces the man she had been seeing to her son. This doesn’t happen, this step—not with night shifts at the bar and day shifts as a single mother. There just isn’t time or space for this step—for introductions—for milestones.

But then came Frank Castle. Unrelenting and damn near intoxicating. Stoic on the surface, yes, but there’s something to be discovered beneath the layers he hides behind. Perhaps this whole milestone was just as new and unpredictable for him as it was for her.

The pot boils as the aroma wafts throughout the house. Beef stroganoff isn’t exactly a staple in their household, but familiar and set aside for only the rarest occasions. There’s no doubt, despite their budding relationship having been something that fell together unpredictably and yet seamlessly, that she’s trying to impress.

JJ is none the wiser, setting the table as rehearsed and practiced every night. It’s not unusual to set up for three as often, Ms. Sunny from next door comes by or even Eloise’s brother, Jesse.

“Is he going to move in with us?” JJ asks, setting down the fork, spoon and knife in their allotted places. “Cal’s mom’s boyfriend moved in after only a month.”

“No, he isn’t moving in, sweetheart. It’s just dinner. So, y’know, you two can meet and get to know each other. Besides, Frank and I have been dating for more than a month already, so, not like Cal’s mom’s boyfriend.”

“Do you like him?”

El laughs, stirring the pot. “I sure hope so.”

“What do I call him?”

Another laugh. “Just Frank, Jay.”

She loves these conversations as her eight year old becomes this curious, wild, intuitive, unearthly thing. It helps solidify her nerves, settling in to a more circus of butterflies rather than the booming anxiety.

JJ opens his mouth to ask another question when there’s a knock at the door as the le Roux pair both pause, sharing a knowing, anticipating look.
