THE BOOK IN A BOX GAG FROM S1 every time Iâm just⊠floored
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING OF. Hale talked about that as an example of what a great physical actor Jason is (I think on the Physical Kids podcast?) and mentioned that they just had like, a brick in the bottom of that box and everything else was just the two of them shaking the box without looking like they were moving it.
And the fact that heâs able to do all of that with a 100% straight face is amazing.Â
But they also have Quentin get thrown around and seize up and fall over so often just because Jasonâs so good at throwing himself 100% into it and itâs fantastic.Â
This obviously also goes into more subtle bits of his performance, but his theater background really plays into all of the things I love about the physicality of how he plays Quentin: His posture, the way he stands, the way he sits, the nervous hand gestures and lack of eye contact. When youâre on stage, you canât really rely on facial expressions as much as you do on bigger movements that audiences can see from far off, you know? And that really translates to tv in a beautiful way.
