My first review has to be the game I have been addicted to the last couple of weeks. I will try to keep it short and sweet, considering there are technically 30 games to dive into.
Game Synopsis
Rare Replay is a collection of 30 ‘Epic’ Rare games over the past 30 years. Games like Jetpac and Sabre Wulf bring back the classic 8-bit nostalgia. Conker portrays the absurdity and humour of the employers at Rare. And when you want to relax there is always a plot of garden waiting for you to decorate in Viva Piñata.
Gameplay - 7/10
As a newcomer to most of these games, the gameplay was no disappointment and completing all 30 was one of the most enjoyable time wasting games for Xbox One. The gameplay obviously changes throughout the endless hours you play in Rare Replay. Having played 30+ hours on the game I found no actual in-game bugs or glitches, for example being thrown into some kind of invisible box. The only problem I found was being sent back to the Xbox One home screen and having to reset the game, but I am not the only one this has happened to. With that put aside, the gameplay ran as smooth as you would expect from a newly released title. At least for me it did!
The variety of game genres helps towards selling this game, as you will at least like 1 or 2 games from the list. I actually enjoy all the games on the Rare Replay list, however there are games I enjoy much more than others; which is expected for any individual. Personally, I would say there are 5 games you must play on Rare Replay, at least more than once anyway. Those games are: Jetpac, R.C Pro-Am, Battletoads, Conker’s Bad Fur Day and Perfect Dark Zero. All games have great gameplay and story that makes you want to come back over and over again. Battletoads is probably my favourite, simply because it is a hard challenge to actually complete the game. If it was down to story, I would play Conker’s Bad Fur Day. The crude Humour and gameplay makes for a joyful and weird experience, 10/10 must play at least once.
Graphics - 3/10
There is not much to say about the graphics. From my experience with Rare Replay the graphics have just been given a slight HD feel to them. It only really brings back childhood memories and adds no new feel. Just some fancy and colourful borders around the games whilst you play.
Music - 5/10
The opening credits are the highlight of the music as they set the tone of the game. The happy and childish number is music to my ears, without a doubt I listen to the opening credits before opening the Rare Replay curtains. Yet again, apart from the opening credits the music throughout just sounds less static and more HD like.
Content - 8/10
The reason why content gains a high score from me, is mainly because of the value for money you get. 30 games for £17/$30 is just outstanding. Rare Replay is full of exciting adventures and challenges, especially with the use of snapshot challenges in most of the games.
Achievements - 9/10
The fact that you can gain 8-10 thousand Gamerscore from this game is the reason it gets a 9. The reason it does not get 10/10, is simply because if you have played the Xbox 360 games and gained all the achievements already you can not replay them to increase your Gamerscore.
Overall
Rare Replay is cheap, contains 30 games, 8-10k Gamerscore and brings loads of fun hours to waste time or just to grind achievements. A must buy!
