Barista 102
Is it just me or do all the partners (a person who works at the coffee shop) talk about customers like they’re not even standing 2 feet away from you…
I called out a drink for a Denise. My co-worker was quick to tell me after me yelling “Denise” 5 times that the customer pronounces it “Dennis.“ Why the fudge is your name Dennis? Denise is Dennis now?!
Today I was given a test on how to make drinks. I think I failed. My drinks were either too sweet or too unsweet.
Can we talk about how customers will come up to the register and ask for a quad venti double pump mocha, ½ pump of peppermint, splash of soy, 3 drops of coconut milk, 2.6 pumps of toffee nut, 3 pump caramel iced latte like I have a special super power to remember your picky drink.
Barista 101
I have this friend whose been a barista for like a month now and the best advice I can give is to not be a barista. I mean, why does it matter if I ring on the reg with my nails painted or why can’t I que the shots and then steam the milk? It only takes a second longer to finish. Why can you eat on the floor but I can’t sip coffee? Okay, this may be turning more into a vent than an actual post. I promise that I have a point. I guess you can tell how I feel about being a barista. Point is… you should give your barista a lot of credit. It’s not an easy job. (At first) There are a whole lot of rules and each one matters. Like why we can’t have our nails painted… it’s not because the manager wants our naked nails to look hideous, it’s because on a shift at the coffee shop, you’re not always going to be ringing. You’ll have to make coffee and prepare food and no one wants to be digesting any chips of polish. Okay, it’s steam the milk, then que the shots. Easy… shots expire DUHHH. Don’t want any caffeine lovers to kick the bucket now do we?! And as far as eating on the floor… just doesn’t look right, but still. Why can you eat on the floor but I can’t sip my coffee?!
