The Gap Between What You Like And What You Say You Like
From Jody Avirgan’s podcast/What's The Point/FiveThirtyEight
“The brain is an inference-generating machine… people walk around with a model in their heads.”
If you were to ask me what my favorite kinds of movies are, I’d probably tell you that I enjoy quirky independent comedies and illuminating narrative documentaries. But if you looked at my Netflix history, you’d see that I watched a lot of blockbusters and “Crime, Action & Adventure.”1
On this week’s What’s The Point, Tom Vanderbilt, a journalist and author of the new book “You May Also Like,” discusses how our taste exists as both personal preference and social performance, and how the digital age is complicating what it means to like something. We’re presented with more and more choice, but taste is in many ways a process of optimization. Our brains want to find what we like as efficiently as possible.....

thought-provoking discussion about how social cues influence our stated desires...how we can ‘hate-like’ things... like ‘ships’
Even in our happiest of moments, we can still hide our "true" selves with a beautiful fake smile and act like nothing is begging for help.
The hall
As I lay in my bed tonight, a million thoughts race through my head. I'm wondering what is going on and why is everything not okay. Now a days, it seems like I just can't see the light in life. Everything is always dark and frightening, but then I found you. I thought you were really cool when we first met, truly met, and idk why I was just happy for a moment. Every time I'm near you, a little window down this dark hall opens up, and a ray of light pours out. But it just seems like this window closes whenever I leave, and the hall of life grows dim once again. Why is it that I must feel this way? Why can't everything be simple? Well, if life were simple, it wouldn't be as much fun I suppose.
Nobody has genuine conversations anymore. They don't listen or show any interest. They only wait impatiently to respond to something they barely even heard. I don't talk to many people these days..
ma damn self

Never have I been so frustrated in my life. What is wrong with me.
How do you rejoice in the lord
when you feel the full weight of your failures and shortcoming crashing down on you? How do you hold on to your trust in Him when you don't feel him or see him?
I'm never going to get anywhere in life
