listen. tungle.net wouldnt let me upload this on a reblog but a plant science twitter i follow retweeted this and let me tell you i have never felt so emotionally conflicted watching a video in my life. this is a sped-up video of a seed germinating under light-sheet microscopy and i do not understand my feelings. am i afraid? do i appreciate the catharsis of watching this plant’s root penetrate its small prison to slither offscreen like a determined newly-hatched reptile? do i feel nervous knowing that this is a normal biological process that ive undoubtedly seen before? is seeing it highlighted in neon green as a gently pulsating squishy moving living thing preferable to seeing it illustrated in flat unmoving colors in a textbook? i dont know. all i know is that ive been watching this on repeat for fifteen minutes now and i am primally unsettled
