what an umbrella handle should look like
New whangee umbrellas $195
Whangee (pronounced wang-nee) is the root of a bamboo that is steamed over several months to bend it into shape.
As a follow up to the previously asked monocle question: What about Bowler hats?
I think it's similar to the monocle answer, in that if the rest of your ensemble is in full, well-oiled, working order, a bowler hat could be A Thing. Perhaps even accompanied by a slim black whangee-handled umbrella.
But, again, you've really got to sell it. Be self assured. Believe in the bowler. Adhere to proper hat etiquette, doff with aplomb, and for goodness' sake, don't wear it in the evening.
