Clariant – Discover Value (DC)
This animation is made completely digitally using illustrator and after effects, made to look like paper cuts - with a narrative about the philosophy of clariant. Clariant are a chemical company which create renewable and sources and energy for companies and organisations. I was interested in this style because of the fresh crisp look of it, it all flows smoothly and the transitions are fluid - something i doubt i could get so perfect with analogue paper cuts.
i loved their use of shadow in this animation though, i think it adds some real depth to the scenes and makes the viewer feel more amerced in the experience, as well as the simple shapes and bright colours keeping it visually pleasing which keeps the audience interested. My target audience for my animation is 20-50 year olds (the early/middle aged) and i think thatthey would appreciate something with this style, it isnt too over the top and complicated but it has a sort of flare about it that keeps it current and ‘in fashion’. I know that this involves two programs which im not very confident with (one that ive never used) but i still feel as if this could help me with the development of my project. Just because ive never used after effects doesnt mean that i cant incorporate some digital processes in with my work, like i said in my proposal that i wanted to combine the two processes, i want to be able to use the two to compliment each other - let one process do a certain thing thats better than the other process can do it. I still want to use analogue paper cuts and create the animations from these but then i wish to tweak and perfect the frames or animation within after effects or illustrator and do things that i might not be able to do so easily by hand. I know that time is of the essence so im restricting myself to only the basics of after effects and im going to see how i can play around with it, if i find out that it takes too long or is too complicated then unfortunately i don’t have the time to waste on teaching myself.
when i comes to the stlyes of animation that they used i loved the morphing technique and think its a very effective way of changing the scene or main element of the scene without it looking jumpy or stiff, and i liked how in their narrative they explained what they do and why they do it. This is important when it comes to my animation because for one, i want it the transitions to be smooth and two, i want to raise awareness for a cause - and the best way to do this is to show people what is happening and the good that the cause are doing to battle this.
my next step will be playing with morphing animations and looking into narratives,as well as playing around with after effects and illustrator and seeing what we can create.
