Retrospect of the Mind
Quick thing I wrote up...more of a ramble in the mind of Rhabeen Blackfoot, but it was inspired by a current RP that I have with @daisydragonart and her wonderful Westine Butler. Wrote this when I should have been focusing in class. So, Daisy, hope you don’t mind that I did this and I hope you enjoy.
Its not like he wanted to fall for her. Hell, for the longest time she was just an image in a picture. She was further away and all he knew of her was whatever idealized version he had created in his mind. Yet, the moment she walked into the compound that one fateful night, he fell, hard. He wasn’t one to believe in love at first sight. He always thought that’s what desperate people said about the first person they saw. But, he could kind of see where they came from now. The more he saw of her, the more he realized that his version of her could never compare to the real thing. He had read her correctly from the holo, she was kind.Â
Kind.
Yes.
But everything else he figured she’d be like, he had gotten wrong. He thought she would be confident and nothing could hold her back. He’d seen it in holoclips of her. But, after meeting her, he knew her secret. She loved her daughter more than the world itself, it seemed. She was more gentle than he could have ever guessed. That one night showed him just how raw and personal she could get. It felt like she didn’t belong among the harsh, backstabbing Sith, but it didn’t mean that she couldn’t be ruthless. Her kindness was not weakness. No, it was her greatest strength. In one night, she was able to crush everything he thought she would be like. Through that, he had fallen harder than ever for her.
Not to say that he had started to believe in love at first sight, but he was pretty close to doing so. Especially after that one night. That’s all that he needed. There were multiple times where he thought he would die during that dinner, especially when she addressed the issue where he was ignoring her advances. He thought after his answer he would be done. His life gone. But, she didn’t kill him. She just thanked him. He won’t lie, it did confuse him, but he would rather live another day than to question why he was allowed to. He was glad he could, for that way he could live another day to fall in love with her.
It was strange really. He had long foregone keeping a picture of her with him at all times during hunts and bounties. It had been so long since he had even felt anything other than pride that she was the Wrath. He had even started to forget how she looked like. Her image, once a lucky charm, now had become a mere long lost memory. He felt ashamed that when she walked in looking nervous and worried, he hadn’t recognized her. It was until that dinner, that he was reminded of just who he helped and just who she was. It should have scared him more than it had, but, he felt just a bit more confident in the conversation. He may not have showed it, but he felt it.
He was a man of contradictions. He was terrified for his life if he said something wrong, constantly apologizing, but he also felt more confident than before. How it worked, he did not know, but he was glad it worked that way. Once he was told to call her by her name, he would have peed his pants. His agent training screamed every time he said her name, so his faked confidence helped him come to terms that she was one of the only Sith that wants to be called by her first name. And oh how he loved it.
So now, he was stuck fighting all the feelings he had towards her, while trying to keep her daughter alive. Every time there was a joint clan outing, he had to watch out for Fedrina and make sure she didn’t die or injure herself to the point that there was risk of death. He knew she could hold her own and had been doing so up until now. He hated treating her like a child or some precious, powerless, fragile object. He tried not to become so overprotective. He had to watch and check himself every time he felt like he was nearing that zone. It was terrible. But, Westine indirectly had tasked him with her daughters life and if he didn’t do as he was told, he would face a dishonorable death. That was his greatest fear and his greatest motivator. And if Westine helped power it, he appreciated her even more for it.
It was the least he could do for someone who indirectly helped him get through one of his hardest transitions in his life. And the more he saw her, the more he remembered why he even made the change. It was to be accepted by majority of everyone around him and not just his family. Yes, he still had a family back home that cared about him but he had found his true family here, amongst the Mandalorians. And it was thanks to her that he followed his heart, no matter how hard it was. In retrospect, it was the best decision he could have made and it was all thanks to her.
So yes, Westine Butler may be terrifying and manipulative to many, but to him, he was falling in love with her all over again.
