It seemed like everybody around you had something insane going on at all times. Changbin was slowly trying to gain the trust of Jamie, who was severely traumatized -- understandably so. Hyunjin and Jeongin were still trying to confess to their mates because the two girls only knew half of the truth so far. Minho and Ryu had just gotten over their whole...thing, but Elsie and Seungmin were still...doing whatever they were doing. Chan and Aeri were sucked into absolutely everything going on because Chanâs the alpha and that essentially made Aeri the âpack momâ by default. And Felix and Sam were either working or at school, so nobody really saw them.
And then there was you and Jisung.
Comparatively -- except to Felix and Sam, maybe -- you were boring. But comparatively, you loved being boring. The most exciting thing about your relationship was that he made you break out in hives if you touched him in his wolf form. You enjoyed having absolutely nothing going on.Â
The pack, however, made it their go-to joke. You two were somehow always being made fun of all because you were the couple with no big problems. You were âblandâ, âboringâ, and Hyunjinâs favorite insult: âvanillaâ. You never saw a problem with how your relationship with Jisung was going, but the pack always made a point to single the two of you out for being ânormiesâ.
Did it bother you? Eh, not really. It was more so stupid than anything. Why would you get picked on for not having any issues other than the typical couple spats like what you were having for takeout or what to do for dates? It didnât make any sense.
Jisung, however, hated it. He thought his brothers were being annoying and obnoxious, and he wanted nothing more than for them to just shut up. And you knew that because he was always complaining about them. You didnât blame him -- you felt bad, honestly -- but you didnât understand why they thought to make fun of you for having nothing going on.
âDo you, like...want something to be wrong?â you asked one afternoon when he was over while Aeri and Chan were out for a much needed date night.
âNo!â he said quickly. âBaby, youâre already allergic to me.â
You shrugged, âI have medicine. Could be worse.â
âThat doesnât mean I want it worse.â
You opened your mouth to take a bite of the pizza Jisung had brought with him for the two of you to eat, but you could feel a sneeze creeping up on you. You preemptively threw your face into the crook of your elbow, and Jisung instinctively mumbled a, âbless you,â before you could even sneeze.
As you let out your sneeze, Jisung perked up, eyes wide and mouth full of pizza as he got an idea.
He shouted garbled words at you, muffled by the food in his mouth -- a little even landing on your arm.
âEw, Jisung!â you squealed as you grabbed his sweatshirt sleeve to wipe your skin. âChew and swallow first! You werenât raised in the wild!â
Quickly, he chewed his food enough so he could talk before excitedly repeating, âWe could pretend!â
â...Pretend to be raised in the wild...?â
âNo, baby; pretend to have something be wrong!â
Your eyebrows furrowed until you finally caught on. Jisung wanted to fake a problem to make his pack stop giving him grief.
You let out a sigh, âThatâs stupid.â
âYeah, well so is getting teased for being perfect,â he stated. âThink about it, itâll be easy! Youâre allergic to dogs, so letâs say youâre sick of being sick! You pretend to dump me, the guys feel bad for being assholes, and then we pretend to get back together. Itâs harmless and itâll make them shut up.â
âJisung,â you groaned, letting your head fall back against the couch, âyou know I canât lie. Iâm such a bad liar -- especially to Aeri!â
âYou think Aeri wonât keep the secret?â he scoffed. âIf itâs a harmless prank, sheâll be 100% in.â
âA fake breakup sounds like itâll end badly...â you admitted slowly, still feeling unsure about this plan.
âHow could it when weâre made for each other?â he reminded you with a reassuring smile. He took both of your hands in his and looked deep into your eyes. âNothing can go wrong.â
You stared back into his golden eyes, searching them for...something. But all that they offered were reassurance and trust. Jisung never lied to you and heâd never steer you wrong.
Letting out a defeated sigh, you asked, âHowâre we doing this?â

It was a slow night, but most nights were. They were going to close in 30 minutes anyway, but some of the pack liked to hang out -- namely Minho when Ryu was working. Felix was closing with her since Sam had a late class. Along with Minho, was Changbin and Jamie, Hyunjin and Jeongin, and Elsie. Changbin thought some fresh air might be good for her, so he brought her to sit at the cafĂŠ just to get out of the house. Hyunjin was couch-hopping again and was staying at Jeonginâs for the night, so the two decided to meet up at the cafĂŠ beforehand. And Elsie had finished her day early so she swung by the coffee shop so her and Ryu could go home together.
âCan I have a bite?â Changbin asked his mate, pointing to her bear-shaped cake pop that was resting on her napkin.
She glanced at him and shook her head, blowing softly on her coffee.
He poked his cheeks with his index fingers and talked in the cutest voice he could manage -- a voice his pack knew all too well that he was starting to use with Jamie the more comfortable she got with him. She was honestly starting to wonder how someone like Changbin could get caught up in the shit he was caught up in.
âBut Iâm so cute, how can you say no?â he asked, batting his eyelashes at her.
She let out a giggle and slapped him in the shoulder, causing him to drop the act but also start laughing along with her.
Hyunjinâs eyes widened as he leaned toward her across the table, âYou giggle?â
Jamieâs laughter abruptly stopped as her face immediately fell into a glare. She grabbed the stick of the cake pop and lifted her arm like she was either going to throw it or stab the younger wolf with it, but Changbin quickly grabbed her arm in his panic.
âOkay, okay,â he chuckled nervously, âletâs not waste a perfectly good cake pop.â
âSheâs feisty,â Elsie nodded. âKeep her.â
Changbin grinned at his mate as she continued to stare down his brother, ripping off half the bearâs head with her teeth, âThatâs the plan.â
âI wasnât trying to be mean!â Hyunjin insisted. âI was just shocked, okay!â
âToo late, dude,â Minho laughed, âyouâre on her shit list.â
âYeah, youâre probably not waking up tomorrow,â Felix chimed in, cleaning out the blender as he watched his friends from behind the counter.
Jeongin scrunched up his nose, âEw, wait, can you not die on my parentsâ couch?â
âYouâre such a great friend, Jeongin,â Ryu deadpanned as she wiped down the counter. âMinseo is such a lucky girl.â
Jeongin turned in his chair to face her, âHey, if it were Minseo, I wouldnât--â
His statement was cut off by the sharpness of the bell ringing as the door was thrown open, hitting the wall and shaking the glass. It startled the whole group, all of them jumping -- Jeongin even let out a shriek -- and tensing at the sudden trouble.
But they relaxed when their eyes landed on Jisungâs form, drenched from the rain outside.
Their tension returned quickly when they saw his eyes were full of tears, and his face was tomato red.
Felix studied Jisung with concern, âJisung? Are you okay?â
Minho, who was leaning up against the counter, stood up and watched his brother continue to stand in the open doorway, âDude, what happened?â
Jisung sniffled, and in a broken voice, managed to say, âSh-she dumped me...â
All of their eyes widened. Elsie looked dumbfounded, knowing what it meant to be broken up with by a mate.
Ryu gasped, âNo.â
While Jamie felt bad that you and Jisung were apparently no longer together, she didnât understand why everyone suddenly seemed so...scared. She nudged Changbin, looking at him in confusion, so he brought his lips toward her ear and whispered the explanation of why this was such a big deal.
If you dumped Jisung, it meant he would most likely die. The heartache of being without his mate would slowly kill him until Jisung died within about a monthâs time of a broken heart.
âWhat the hell happened?â Elsie asked, even seeming concerned for him. âI thought you two were like, the perfect ones.â
âSh-she--â he sniffled as Minho walked over to him to guide him inside the cafĂŠ. âSheâs tired of...d-dealing with the a-allergies... She s-said itâs...t-too much...â
The pack had seen how often you had to pop allergy medication, apply eye drops, or jam nasal spray up your nose. Theyâve seen the blotchy red patches that would appear on your skin that you had the hardest time trying to not scratch. They could imagine it was difficult to deal with, but they never thought the two of you would break up over it. You always insisted it was something you didnât mind dealing with.
âAw, Jisung...â Changbin gave him a sad look, not knowing what to say to make his brother feel better.
âHey, I have an extra shirt in the back you can change into,â Felix offered before going to the back to get it before Jisung could even reply.
âYeah, because Iâm sure heâs so cold as a werewolf,â Minho mumbled, rolling his eyes as he led his brother over to the table they were lounging at.
âIâll get you a warm cup of tea,â Ryu told him before starting on the drink despite having cleaned most of the dishes already.
Felix returned from the back and tossed the shirt to Minho, who caught it and handed it to Jisung. He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand before taking the clothing and walking to the bathroom to change.
After closing and locking the door to the one-person bathroom behind him, he let out a breath in a puff and blinked his eyes rapidly. He let out a whine as his legs pressed together, eyes squeezing closed. He just stood there for a moment, feeling the throbbing pain between his legs that he was trying so hard to hide from his brothers and friends.
He felt a buzz from his back pocket and pulled it out to see who it was.
_____đđđ: Hope I didnât knee you too hard!!!!
_____đđđ: Iâm so sorry love!!!!!!!! đđđđ
Jisungie đĽ°đâ¨: They believed me so it was worth itÂ
Jisungie đĽ°đâ¨: But you definitely owe meÂ

The way the door slammed against the wall as it was thrown open sounded like thunder. You heard frames shake on the walls from the force as your head whipped around from where you sat on the couch, meeting Aeriâs wide eyes.
âWhat happened?!â she demanded.
She took in your face: black running down your cheeks from your eyes from your makeup running, eyes watery, and nose running. But despite your disheveled state, you replied with, âWhereâs Chan?â
âHeâs going to check on Jisung,â she told you. â_____, what happened?â
âOh,â you replied in your normal voice as you began to wipe at your face with your hands, âso I did all this for nothing.â
Aeriâs eyebrows furrowed as she paused to try to make any sense of what you were saying. But when she couldnât figure anything out, she just asked, â...What?â
You looked up at her from the couch, black smeared across your face and on your hands now, âYou canât tell anyone.â
âTell anyone what?â
âItâs not real.â
â...What?â
You laughed at your roommateâs confusion, âJisungie and I decided to pull a prank on the pack since they keep making fun of us for being boring. But he said I could tell you because Iâm bad at lying to you.â
âBut-- ...Dude, you were just crying!â she pointed out.
You shook your head, âI just got my makeup to run with water, I put eyedrops in my eyes before you showed up, and my nose is from nasal spray. Having allergies comes in handy sometimes.â
Aeri rubbed both hands over her face, trying to make sense of what the hell was going on. This mightâve been one of the dumbest things she ever heard.
Still, she was no snitch.
âWhatever,â she sighed. âI wonât tell anyone.â
You grinned, âThanks, youâre the best! But who told you?â
âWho didnât tell us?â she scoffed, going over to sit on the couch with you. âChanâs phone was blowing up toward the entire end of our date. The whole group chat was talking about it.â
âWhere was everyone?â
âI guess most of them were at the cafĂŠ. It was just Seungmin and Chan who didnât know what happened.â
âAnd where were you guys?â you wondered, wanting to know what their date entailed.
âMovie and dinner,â she shrugged. âStandard date stuff. He wanted to be clichĂŠ and cheesy, but then we had to rush home.â
As she gave you a pointed look, you shrunk back into the couch, âSorry...â
âHow do you think youâll pull this off, by the way?â Aeri questioned. âYou really are a bad liar, and I know the guys and everyone are gonna ask a lot of questions. Theyâre probably gonna wanna come see you.â
âNobody wants to bother a sad and distraught girl,â you pointed out. âI can avoid them...probably...â
âAnd how are you gonna fake Jisungâs death?â
You looked at her like she was growing three heads, âHis what?â
Aeri blinked at you for a moment, âDid you forget that part, or...?â
As if on cue, it hit you. She saw the realization all over your face and nodded slowly as you turned away to rethink all of your choices. Youâd forgotten all about that part.
âI donât know how long you plan on keeping this prank up,â she told you, âbut you two really need better planning skills.â
âI mean...heâs a good actor,â you shrugged, more so trying to convince yourself than anything else. âIâm sure heâll figure something out.â
-
âSo...how do I fake my own death?âÂ
You let out a sigh, your hopes that your boyfriend would be able to come up with that answer on his own now shattered. You figured heâd know more about that since he was the werewolf here, but apparently nobody knew how to progress this fabricated breakup.
âHow long do we have?â you asked him with a shrug.
âTakes like...a month, I think,â he replied with a shrug of his own. âI donât know, Iâve never been denied before. And clearly nobody in the pack has experienced it -- Seungminâs been the closest but that pain in the ass is still kicking.â
You did have to admit, though, it was kind of exciting sneaking around to meet up with Jisung. The two of you were standing together behind one of the farthest buildings on campus to make sure you wouldnât be caught. And in case Jisung did sense anybody coming, your car was parked in the lot not too far away so you could easily run over and jump in, and Jisung could play the role of heartbroken lover following his ex-girlfriend around like a lovesick puppy.
You could at least plan out some things, but faking a death wasnât one of them.
âHow does it work?â you questioned.
âIâm basically supposed to just be really depressed,â he shrugged. âI think Chan said Iâm gonna wither away or something.â
You nodded slowly, thinking it over before announcing, âI have no idea how to fake that.â
âYeah, me neither.â
âYouâd think one of us would be the brains of this operation.â
âWe share a braincell,â Jisung grinned as if that fact was a good thing.
You ignored him, saying, âI guess you should just act depressed. Donât leave the house; donât do anything.â
He frowned, âBut I have school!â
âSince when has school meant that much to you?â
âWell Iâm not trying to get out of a monthâs worth of classes! _____, Iâll get kicked out!â
He did have a point.
You let out a defeated sigh and let your forehead hit his shoulder as you closed your eyes, âThis is a lot more difficult than I thought.â
âPranks arenât that hard,â he chuckled, patting your back comfortingly, âwe just happened to plan one that is.â
âWhat if we just admit to them it was a prank before you die?â
âBut I wanted to do that on my deathbed. Yâknow, be dramatic. Bring Hyunjin in real close and then choke out, âGotcha,â before I pass away.â
That got a laugh out of you that made Jisung laugh too. You lifted your head to look at him, shaking your head, âYouâre definitely something else.â

Pretending to be heartbroken for the last week was pretty easy. You didnât really see any of the wolves, and the girls only really reached out through texts. Sam had said she didnât want to press for details until you were ready, but she hoped you were doing okay. Ryu sent you a small bouquet of flowers signed from her, Elsie, Minho, and Seungmin -- but knowing Ryu, you knew the flowers were definitely all her idea. Chan sent his condolences through Aeri because he knew she was your best friend and he didnât want to bother you. Minseo did take the time to track you down on campus, which was very nerve-wracking because you didnât really talk to her -- she was very sweet but you hardly knew her -- and you were not prepared at all to speak to any of the mates. She gave you a hug and said to reach out if you needed anything at all. You tugged your hood further down your head and nodded quickly before making your escape.
For the most part, you avoided the pack altogether. You didnât have any classes with them, and they never bothered you at your house. Besides, you were usually in your room after classes doing homework or studying, so if anyone did come over, they never saw you. There were a couple times that Changbin or Chan had stopped by, either to check on you or to hang out with Aeri. You heard them talking but stayed silent in your room, working diligently on homework.
But finally, something happened that you were expecting to happen eventually. Knowing now that dumping Jisung would cause him to literally die from heartbreak -- well, if you really dumped him -- you figured the pack would want to try to talk to you and convince you to take him back to save their brotherâs life. And of course, the one who volunteered was the alpha himself.
âUh, yeah,â Aeri said when Chan asked to speak to you himself, âlet me just go check on her first. Yâknow, let her be a bit more presentable. Poor girlâs been a mess since everything happened.â
Your eyes widened and you quickly looked away from the door that you were staring at in horror, dipping your head down until your nose was practically touching your notebook. There were two knocks before Aeri opened the door enough to slip inside before shutting it.
âHey, _____,â her voice was calm and soothing, and you turned slowly to look at her, fear in your eyes.
âLook, I know you probably donât want to talk about...him,â she continued as she quickly gestured for you to get in bed. You closed up your homework and jumped into bed as she helped you tighten your hood around your face. Then she had you lay down under the blankets and roll over to face the wall away from the door, all while talking to you like she wasnât helping you prank her own boyfriend, âbut Chan really wants to speak to you about what happened. You donât have to talk if you donât want to -- he completely understands. He just wants to talk to you for a few minutes. Iâll be right here if you need anything, okay?â
She gave your head a quick pat before getting off of the bed and going to let her boyfriend in. Chan stepped inside the room quietly, eyes looking around the room to see it was still just as pristine as you always kept your bedroom. But he did notice papers and notebooks scattered across your desk, which was very unlike you. He let out a sad sigh, thinking you must be as torn up as Jisung.
âHey, _____,â his voice was soft and careful, and you almost jumped hearing it. But you kept your eyes trained on the wall. âHowâre you doing?â
When he was met with silence, he gave Aeri a sad look. She just pursed her lips and shrugged, looking back at your sad form.
Chan looked back at you again and took a step forward, âListen... I donât want to... Ah, how do I word this?
âI canât...imagine how it must feel to put up with-- No, uh...deal with what you do,â he began, choosing his words as carefully as he could. It kind of made you feel bad for tricking him like this when he was trying so hard to articulate his thoughts as perfectly as he could manage. âI donât want you to think Iâm trying to like, guilt you or pressure you or anything, but... _____...I donât know if you know anything about denying a werewolf when theyâve imprinted on you. If you donât, I donât want to tell you and make you feel bad or feel like you have to do anything, but I also donât want to keep that information from you and hurt you further. So...â
He slowly looked to Aeri, wondering what he should do.
She looked at him with wide, confused eyes, âWhat?â
âShould I tell her?â he asked.
Obviously, knowing what she knew, she knew it didnât matter if he told you or not. But she had to pretend this was all real and put some actual thought into it.
âI mean...considering the circumstances...â she shrugged.
âIs that a yes?â
âOkay, well if I dumped you and didnât find out you were going to kick the bucket--â
âOkay, okay,â he held a hand up to her and turned back to you. â_____...the truth is...Jisung will...quiet literally...die without you.â
You laid there, wondering if you should react some way. But you were a bad actress and didnât want to blow your cover, either.Â
When you didnât move or make any noise, Chanâs eyebrows furrowed. Maybe you just didnât care anymore? But that seemed so unlike you. He saw how in love you and Jisung were. There was no way you could already detach yourself from him like that, right?
He let out a sigh, shaking his head and looking down at the floor, âMaybe you donât care, and you donât have to. Youâre not his mate anymore, so I donât expect you to care, and I donât expect you to do anything. But...Iâve seen you and Jisung together. Iâve seen how much you loved and cared about each other, and I know he still does feel that way toward you -- he always will. I donât want to tell you to go back to him; I just wanted to ask if maybe youâd think about it. I...donât want my brother to die.â
Hearing Chanâs voice break at the end made your heart hurt. And he could hear that in the way your heartbeat sped up. He at least got some sort of reaction out of you.
His eyes were filling with tears, and he quickly wiped them away as he sniffled, âUgh, sorry. Okay, thatâs all I wanted. Iâll leave you alone now.â
Even Aeri started to feel bad, going over to him and wrapping her arms around his shoulders from the side, âBabe, donât cry.â
âAh!â he let out an embarrassed laugh as he looked up at the ceiling, trying to get the tears to go back the way they came. âIâm trying not to!â
âCâmon,â she led him out of the room and closed the door.
You sat up and could hear their talking become more and more muffled as they walked away. God, you felt so guilty.Â
You went back to your desk and grabbed your phone, going to your texts with Jisung.
_____đđđ: Chan just CRIED to me over you
_____đđđ: Should we just give this up? I feel so guilty (*âŻ^â°)
_____đđđ: I didnât want to make anyone cry
You set your phone in your lap with a sigh, staring down at your desk. The whole point if this prank was to get Jisungâs brothers to stop teasing him. You never wanted to actually emotionally hurt anyone.
Your phone vibrated and you held it up to see his response.
Jisungie đĽ°đâ¨: Iâve had to listen to that big baby cry over me dying for like a week and a half
Jisungie đĽ°đâ¨: If I have to hear it, so do you
