Here in the Jungle // Weregorilla x Reader.
Not the jungle, of course not. This long stretch of land, stretching over thousands and thousands of miles, was wild and hot and terrible and it was always alive with noise and action. The jungle was never silent.
Creatures crawling through the undergrowth, the wind howling through the trees, insects chittering and birds calling.
Never was the jungle a silent thing.
Lantern had been snuffed out, tents were zipped up tight. All of the hustle and bustle of the day had been forgotten, alt least for a few hours, and all was peaceful. Only the softest of sounds resounded through the night air, a deep snore or a shifting in someone’s cot.
It was quiet. Everyone was asleep.
And it was only then, only when you were totally sure that it was safe, that you moved. Slipping out of the rough little thing you called a cot, you stuffed a bag of laundry beneath the rough blankets, hoping that it looked something like a sleeping figure (or at least enough to fool someone’s tired eyes into thinking it was), you took only your lantern and a small bag and then you snuck away.
The jungle night was dark.
With the tall trees and thick foliage blocking out any light, you were left to carefully stumble your way through the dark, using your hand to guide your way through the trees. It was difficult to say the least but you didn’t dare to light your lantern, not until you were a safe distance away.
Your footsteps were quiet.
Boots crunched carefully in the dark, stepping over roots and snapping twigs. The path was familiar by now, having been walked so many times. You knew what turns to take, when to duck down to avoid the low hanging branches.
All around was life. Animals creeping and calling to one another. A predator chasing its prey, a bird singing a soft song. Little bits of gold shimmered softly, fireflies flickering in the shadows.
Your heart was beating wildly.
Though you loved the jungle, you knew that it was a dangerous place. All kinds of deadly creatures lived here, jaguars and poisons snakes, even tiny things like mosquitoes and spiders poised a great threat to you. The jungle that you called home could kill quickly, with no one ever so much as hearing a scream.
It was full tonight, round and brilliant, but the darkness had been keeping it hidden from you. Now little bits of silver were just managing to break through the thicket of trees, revealing little pieces of the jungle.
Violently bright flowers, blood red and golden, that were so pretty...and so very deadly.
A vine that had been wrapped around a slim tree branch, only to suddenly spring to life and reveal itself as a green viper.
Shadows slipped by, creatures stopping to stare at you...only to bolt away in the blink of an eye.
By now, the camp vanished from your line of sight and you finally felt safe enough to light your lantern. Flicking the rusted switch, it flickered for a moment before bursting to life.
Using the golden light to guide your way through the darkness, you found your way to the side of a large mountain, it’s stone spirals reaching high into the night sky. The lower half of the mountain was masked by vines and bright flowers and gnarled trees, almost completely hiding its stone walls. Walking a little more, you stopped and pushed away the long streams of tangled vines, exposing a dark hole rather then more stone.
Glancing behind your shoulder only once, you entered the cavern.
A mass of tunnels expanded before you. Plenty of foolish creatures and humans had lost their way here over the many years and had all perished, their bones left to rot into dust. The sight of it was certainly unnerving but you were unafraid.
You had learned the secrets of the jungle as well as those of the mountain. With a little click, your light withered away and darkness swallowed you. But then…
It came suddenly, a soft glow that still made you gaze in awe.
A soft, purple light filled the cavern, produced by the purple stones embedded in the stone walls. An identical stone hung around your neck, strung onto a line of leather and glowing beneath your white shirt. Touching the little purple heart, you allowed yourself to bask in the glow of the moment.
And then you started to run.
Following the light through the darkness, you running through the maze beneath the mountain, your heart beating with excitement.
Blackness and light rushed around you, creating a brilliant blur.
Every step made your heart race, knowing that you were coming closer and closer to the very thing you had been dreaming of!
And it wasn’t long before that dream came true. Another light came to greet you. Firelight spilled into the darkness, flames and shadows dancing on the cavern walls. A large, dark shadow hovered above all other, the silhouette of a mighty creature hanging from the ceiling.
The doctor’s study was a little piece of heaven hidden away in the heart of the jungle. Old furniture was scattered about here and there, specimens and artifacts stacked everywhere, and lights hanging from the ceiling. There was a bed draped with nets over it and blankets upon it, a desk covered in papers, and bookshelves so stuffed that they looked as though they might burst.
From the vines strung along the ceiling, a figure fell, making the lanterns shake. Before you stood a silver back gorilla, of which there were many here. But this one was different from any of the other creatures of the jungle.
This gorilla wore glasses and the remains of an old suit stretched across his muscular form.
He held a book in his huge hand, which he snapped close, and as you entered the study, the gorilla spoke in a deep, British accent.
“Hello, darling.” He said, reaching out for you.
You ran into his arms, grinning as he held you to his hairy chest. Anyone knew that gorillas were dangerous creatures, with incredible strength and short tempers, and anyone else would have been scared out of their mind! But you knew the Doctor Marrow would never, ever hurt you. After all, even in his weregorilla form, Ian was a sweetheart.
“I missed you so much!” You sighed, placing a kiss onto his rough lips.
Ian gave a deep chuckle, returning your kiss with one of his own.
“I’ve missed you too.” He replied. “All day I kept trying to distract myself with my studies, but I couldn’t focus. I’ve been counting down the minuets until the sunset, just dreaming of you!”
Just like you’d been doing all day.
Thinking back to the camp, you were certain that the others had picked up on your strange behavior over the last few weeks...but that didn’t matter now. The camp was far, far away and you didn’t have to worry about anything else.
And the two of you had all night for yourselves.
Using his free arm, Ian swung across the ceiling while excitedly telling you that he had something to show you. Slipping through a round opening in the ceiling, Ian burst into the night air, revealing what he had wanted to show you.
The night sky was full of stars and the moon, full and bright, was shining over the dark jungle. For miles and miles, all you could see was the beauty of nature.
“Isn’t is amazing?” Ian whispered. “When I first came here, I was stunned by the beauty of this place. Untouched by the hands of man, pure and wild...I fell in love. Then I was cursed and, well, I stayed in the jungle for good.”
“I was. Until you stumbled into my home.”
Quite literally you thought, recalling how you had fallen through the trees and landed right on top of the doctor.
“Y/N...” Ian said. His hand touch your chin softly, raising your head to meet his gentle gaze. “I cannot make you do anything you do not want but...if you would be willing to stay with me...I cannot give you much, but I can give you a monster’s love.”
Throwing your arms around your lover, you shared a sweet kiss, the worries of the world of man melting away into love.
A month later, you were gone.
The others returned home with the strangest story, insisting that you had been there one second and gone the next, never to be seen again.
But you had no family and no real friends to speak of, so it wasn’t long before your disappearance was forgotten by all, nothing more then a memory in the back of their minds. No one would look for you. But even if they did, they wouldn’t have found you.
Hidden in the jungle, a gorilla and a human sat beneath the stars, content to be alone in their on little world.
(See ya guys, I’m gonna go run away and live in the jungle with my monstrous lover! Society has been fun and all but I got better things to do!)
