I was stressed about Welshbacc last week so I made a hat which not only worked in destressing me but then when I later went out in the cold my head was warm.

 While partaking in the Welsh baccalaureate I have developed my skills in various ways. Firstly my time management has improved drastically as within my group we were allocated roles and given a time period to complete the tasks that the role entailed. I was given the role of controlling the finances for our business, which was very time consuming and forced me to plan my time accordingly. Secondly I feel my communication skills have benefitted from coordinating with my group members and also I had to contact similar establishments to our own such as ‘Jump’ in order to get more in-depth information. My problem-solving skills were pushed to the limit during this project as at one point there seemed to be a million different licenses to do with looking after children and I wasn’t sure which was the right one for our business. After searching around and contacting a few different companies I got some great advice and was able to land on the licenses that were correct for our situation. In the preliminary stages of the project we looked at the pros and cons of opening various businesses and we decided that the best idea was a kids activity centre as it met all the requirements for the task and as a group we felt it was an innovative idea. ‘Fresh Creche’ was the name we came up with and I feel this whole process improved my creative thinking and throughout the project many clever and creative ideas came to light through us working on the welsh Bacc. My digital literacy skills were tested to the limit in this project as prior to this I had, had little experience with Microsoft excel and PowerPoint. I used excel to present all the financial figures for our business and I am now much more confident when faced with a spreadsheet. PowerPoint was also used to present our business and I now feel much stronger creating a presentation as well.  My numeracy skills were defiantly tested during the pricing stage of our project. I was told to fill our venue with cost-effective and fun play-structures and soft play toys then write up our expenses. I also worked out how big of a loan we would need to start-up our business and presented it all in the spreadsheet along with loan repayments, rent, wages and licenses.  Prioritizing and planning was a huge part of the welsh Bacc project and I feel that I have improved massively in these areas as the task went on. All these skills are very important for the career in business I hope to have and the Welsh Bac has shown me that there are always areas to improve on. This course has made me think on my feet and improve my skills massively in order to meet the requirements and I feel much more competent in areas which will help me progress in the modern workplace.
