HIDO RAAC: HERITAGE WALK followed by BAADI SOOC: INTERSECTIONALITY WORKSHOP

The first of the 'Take me to Rio' heritage walk and workshop is here. Come add to the evolving conversation.

Hido Raac is a walking odyssey exploring the Somali presence and living histories of East London. The heritage walk will set off to explore the entangled, enveloped, co-constitutive narratives of commerce, culture and colonialism between Somali peoples and the city, with Hudda Khaireh.

Baadi Sooc workshop will be exploring questions and creating a dialogue through stories, images of self, places and text that form up identity and sense of belonging. We encourage participants to either bring old family photos, objects, documents, a piece of music or if they wish can have their picture take by resident photographer. DIY workstations will be setup around the gallery space for a range of multi and interdisciplinary areas to create collage and décollage with Anisa Nuux-Ali and Yusuf Mussa.

Anisa Nuux-Ali is a Swedish-born Sheffield based Somali. As a black Muslim and female artist, her work focuses on intersectionality. She takes inspiration from the world around her through culture, music, experiences, religion, twists of language, black narratives, diaspora, literature, anatomy, elements of race, stereotypes and expressions of the body. She often documents these through social media and photography.

Yusuf Musse, is a Swedish-born London raised Somali, an aspiring writer who loves language. He is interested in collaborative work, collaborative thinking, the creation of language and reading practices that relate black life as just that black life, full and complex.

Hudda Khaireh is Somali, a contributor and events coordinator for OOMK Zine, her interests centre on Liberation and Abolitionist movements of African and African diasporic peoples.
