We kid you not; this is a real class. But it might be more serious than you think. In this hybrid lecture/seminar, students take a textual approach to making sense of "rise of politics for politics sake in the first half of the 20th century."
Sound like your kind of class?
Ok story time. I was in History and my teacher was doing a lesson on the (American) Civil War for that month and he decided that one of the best ways to teach the war is was to show what living conditions were like on the battlefield, which really isn't a bad idea. So before then he had just been showing videos of reenactments and talking about how it went, but this day was different. This day he did two kinda weird things. First he went on a website and showed on the smartboard a bunch of photos of amputees, hospitals, and medical equipment and proceeded to explain how each of these procedures usually went and how these tools were used in detail, not to mention what could quite possibly happen to the patients as a result of the mid-eighteen hundreds lack of sterile anything. Of course he gave warnings before he showed photos and stuff but the gist is that while really interesting, that was one of the weirdest things to have to watch and talk about. Later in the same class on the same day he got out some of his collection of Civil War things and the first were the three different replications of bullets from that era and an explanation of where the term "son of a gun" comes from ( a story for another time). After that was a real sword. When he showed it to us he said "This is dulled, so while I could still cut your head off with this, it would be a little more complicated" and proceeded to let the class half-full of idiot teenagers to pass around and unsheathe the thing. Probably one of the weirdest fears I've ever had was being beheaded by another kid with a sword neither of us owned in the middle of History class. The end.
Today in English we were talking about love and my teacher told us about his parents, they were together for 2 years, and then broke up for a year and a half, and during that time his mom dated the guy inside the big bird suit, and how he was almost a chick
