As soon as they announced that we should 'stay tuned' for more from the BBC's original british drama coffers I knew it was going to be a Sherlock trailer. I mean come on, the beeb's two biggest domestic and international export shows, they were always going to show off Sherlock on Dr Who day, it would have been stupid not too.
BUT...
I can't help but think they've missed a huge trick here. For the exact same reasoning given above, why not include an air date? You've just had your biggest night of the year (if not longer!), why not announce your next 'big day' immediately after, when the eyes of the world are upon you?!
I'm lucky enough to work in TV, admittedly not in scheduling or drama, but I can't understand the thinking behind not releasing an air date for S3 sooner, unless they genuinely have a scheduling issue/there is some uncertainty around when the final ep will be available...but then don't we have that BFI screening already announced?
I'm just thinking aloud now, but I'm genuinely a little bit foxed by the beeb's strategy here, unless they're waiting to see what their (or their rivals) xmas/new years line-ups are going to look like...
