this is a christmas fic for ihave-toomanyfandoms merry christmas bro !!! basically short fluffy xmas destiel involving mistletoe ;)
‘You know, I knew Jesus personally.’
Dean laughed at his idiot angel boyfriend, tipping more of the decorations out of the old sack he’d found in the bunker. It was a treasure trove of all things Christmas, from Santa to sleigh bells, and yes, even a miniature Nativity Scene. ‘Was he a nice guy?’ he asked.
Cas smiled, untangling the fairy lights from the tinsel. ‘He was decent enough. His birthday wasn’t on the 25th, though.’
‘Aw come on, don’t be ridiculous. He was born on Christmas and they had the whole party with the shepherds and the old guys and presents.’
‘Well, it wasn’t the 25th. Luke got it wrong. Father was quite amused.’
‘Were you there? Part of the heavenly host?’
‘No,’ Cas grumbled. ‘Anna got chosen. And Gabriel got the fun part with Mary.’
‘I bet he enjoyed that,’ Dean opened another box and chuckled. ‘Hey, check this out.’
‘Are those… Pentagram baubles?’
‘Awesome!’
‘Very festive,’ Cas grinned wryly, wrapping the tinsel around the ginormous tree. They’d decided to go all out this year. Dean wanted to give Cas a proper first Christmas, even if that did involve pentagram baubles. ‘Do you think that’s enough now?’ he switched the fairy lights on and thankfully, they all worked, twinkling merrily.
Dean stood up, brushing the fake snow off of his jeans. ‘It looks great. But there’s one thing missing.’
‘What?’
‘Well, we usually put a star or an angel at the top. But there weren’t any in the bags.’
‘Did you look properly?’
‘Yes, of course I looked properly.’
‘Well, it looks fine without.’
‘You don’t understand, we need one. We need an angel.’
‘Honestly, I don’t think I can go on the top of the tree.’
Dean, shook his head, smiling, and pulled an odd-looking plant with white berries out of his pocket.
‘What’s that?’
‘Another Christmas tradition,’ Dean said, walking over the boxes to Cas and holding it above their heads. ‘This is mistletoe,’ he explained as he leaned in and kissed the angel.
Cas quickly relaxed into it, pulling Dean closer. ‘I like this tradition a lot,’ he murmured finally.
‘Me too,’ Dean grinned, hands running through his boyfriend’s hair. ‘We can buy a proper tree angel tomorrow, yeah?’
Cas smiled at the strange human traditions, but nodded all the same. ‘We could buy some more mistletoe too,’ he suggested. ‘I think I’m going to enjoy this Christmas.’
