“Hell isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to seem!” The green haired boy rubbed the back of his neck, a nervous smile adorning his face. You’d find it endearing if he didn’t have horns sticking from the crown of his head and black wings to match.

“Don’t listen to this scumbag.” His counterpart grumbled as he rustled around your room. The blonde seemed to take no consideration for your personal belongings, picking things up and putting them in a completely different place as he continued to go through your everything. His white wings completely contrasted your room, and it seemed his fingers left a soft glow to anything he touched.

You only sat on your bed, rubbing your temples as you attempted to process all that was going on.

“So you’re telling me I somehow angered or intrigued or whatever God and Lucifer at the same time?”

The two nodded, and you continued, “And because of that, they sent you two to... convince me to join either side?”

They nodded again and the green haired demon who introduced himself as ‘Izuku’ mumbled, “That’s far more blunt than how I put it, but yes.”

‘Katsuki’, the blonde angel who was now looking through your closet, scoffed, “Can’t believe Luci sent you instead of that boot-kisser Shoto.“

You heard Izuku mumble something along the lines of ‘don’t call him Luci’ before you shook your head.

“You can’t just expect me to choose a side... right? I mean, this is all too much too fast.”

The angel shrugged, “You don’t have to choose now.”

He never believed he had a soulmate. Not truely. Sure, there was possibly someone out there who held the same unique mark as him—a swirl of black that trailed his upper arms and down his back -but who was he to fool himself into believe they could truely love him?

But then he met you. He met you, and everything seemed to click into place. You weren’t immediately disgruntled by his appearance, nor were you weirded out by Dark Shadow when he made his first appearance. You only kept a bright smile and greeted his companion like a friend. And, as if things couldn’t be any better, you showed him you mark. Completely identical to his own.

Part of him wished to push the feeling away. Put it somewhere deep down into his being and never let it resurface. But, soulmates are known for being drawn to one another, and they’re known for always working themselves out.

And now, here you were. Standing at his door with snacks and movies and that same sweet smile.

“Movies?” You offered simply.

He answered by opening his door wider, and you walked in happily before beginning to set up what you would deem ‘the comfy area’.

He watched from the door for a moment, a small smile making its way to his own features. You patted a spot next to you.

Bakugou Katsuki never thought he’d be in his element at a coffe shop. Hell, if his roommate Kirishima hadn’t begged him to apply because they were short-handed, he would’ve never even considered working there.

But, here he was. Working in a coffee shop. Wearing a dumb apron and taking orders for others. The job itself wasn’t hard— for from it, actually. He’s good at memorizing recipes and orders and very quickly moved up in the ranks.

The real trouble is the customers.

Most are okay, understanding and reasonable if their order gets fucked up. But some just suck. Like the woman he was dealing with currently.

“Ma’am, I can’t refund you for a drink you already drank.”

“This is horrible service.” She argued, “I want to speak to your manager!”

Ah. A Karen.

Bakugou put on the fakest smile he could muster.

“I am the manager.”

You watched all of this go down from a corner booth, nearly spitting out your drink as you witness the blond in all of his glory. You were surprised he’s stayed at the job as long as he has, but you supposed he did get a decent check and got the satisfaction of watching bitchy customers’ faces fall when they realize he’s the top dog.

When the lady finally left, argument completely obliterated, Bakugou came and settled into the booth across from you. You gave him a toothy grin before watching him lay his head down on the table with a long groan.

“Hi Katsuki.” You greeted.

“They’re all assholes.” You heard him mutter, it being a little muffled by the table. You laughed.

“Maybe, but her face was priceless when she realized she lost.”

He sat up at that.

“Well this is new.”

You stared down at the bundle of purple fluff held in the hands of Denki. The desperation was clear in his face.

“He sorta... kinda... maybe... got hit with a quirk... and they said it’ll take about a day to uh... go back to normal...”

As he explained, the bundle shifted and showed you it’s eyes— the same purple as Shinsou’s.

“So you let me boyfriend get turned into... a cat...?”

The cat, your boyfriend, mewled at your voice, pawing at Denki’s hands in an attempt to get to you.

“It wasn’t my fault!” He defended, setting Shinsou down and watching as he rubbed against your legs and began purring.

You and Denki talked a bit longer, about how to take care of your cat boyfriend and such before he left, leaving you alone to deal with Shinsou. Shinsou, who was kneading your couch.

“Hitoshi, no!” You yelled, grabbing and putting him at eye level, “fight your cat urges!”

If you didn’t know any better, you’d think he gave you a smirk. But cats don’t smirk. Do they?

After many hours of fighting with a cat, you got ready for bed. Shinsou curled against you and purred, the sound light to your ears. You scratched his head, a small laugh coming from you.

You awoke the next morning to a heavy weight on your chest. When you opened your eyes, a mop of purple hair greeted you.

“‘Toshi!” You shook him, happy to see he was back to normal. He gave a small groan, sitting up and looking around before looking down at you under him.

“Hey kitten.” He smiled.

“I don’t think you’re allowed to call me that anymore.” You laughed, wrapping your arms around his neck. Running your hands through his hair softly, you felt something... odd. “Uh...”

He took in your look of surprise, furrowing his brows, “What?”

Your son scrunched his nose, watching his father kiss your cheek gently as he moved past you into the kitchen. You laughed.

“What’s that face for, Takeshi?” You asked, sliding your five year old a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

“That’s gross.” Was his reply, not hesitating to start eating the food.

“You know, one day you’ll have someone who kisses you.” Takeshi almost dropped the spoon at your words, a look of disgust coming across his features.

“No way!”

You nodded, moving around the island to his side before tickling him, not stopping when he squirmed and squealed. “Yes way! You’ll find your soulmate just like me and daddy and you’ll be giving them smooches all the time.” You gave a fake evil laugh, “and I’ll remind you of this day until the end of time.”

He continued to scream out ‘no!’ and ‘stop!’ but they fell on deaf ears. That is, until Tenya cleared his throat and tapped his watch.

“Dear, we must be leaving soon.”

You didn’t know what your soulmate mark means. Many people had the first words, or the red string, or even the voice of their soulmate in their head.

You had a symbol. A speaker. Placed on your left wrist, and it burned like crazy at times. You didn’t know what it means. Doctors didn’t know what it means. Hell, even the soulmate experts didn’t know what it means.

Some told you it was defective. That they’d never seen a mark like that and you probably never would either. It discouraged you, sure, but you weren’t giving up. You had to keep hope that someone out there was made for you, right?

And one day, you met him. The man with long blond hair and a dorky smile. He ran into you on accident, making you drop all of your groceries and he was kind enough to immediately started helping you pick them up, despite seeming to be in a rush.

It was almost like a movie. You both reached for the same piece of fruit and accidentally brushed hands. Instead of something dream-like happening, though, you were met with the most intense burning sensation in your wrist. You almost thought that was his quirk and he actually hurt you, until you noticed he seemed to be writhing in just as much pain as you.

It was therapeutic almost, seeing the dark haired stranger come to the saloon every weekend without fail. Something about his consistency made you comfortable.

You supposed it was good the other girls held his ogling eyed instead of you. Maybe he’d send some cash their way. You’d hope he’d send some cash their way.

But no. Soon after his loud blonde friend left, his attention was brought to you. Like clockwork. With how often he came in, you managed to get to know each other personally. Asking about each other’s lives. A small flutter made its way in your chest at the thought.

“How do you feel about this town?” He asked one night. The question itself threw you for a spin. How did you feel about the town? You settled here a few years ago, and managed to get a job as a bartender that barely got the bills paid. You wished to travel. To see something other than the same four restaurants and the same two hotels. Something different. Something new.

“It’s okay.” You replied after a moment, cleaning off the countertop with a rag.

“Would you leave if you could?” He continued, dark eyes boring holes into the cup of whatever he had asked for.

“I mean, yeah.” You said with a small laugh, “Wouldnt you?”

“Yeah.” He said quietly, “I would.”

The next time he comes, he seems to have renowned energy. He actively responds to his blonde friend and the girls who approach him and even throws a tip or two their way. When his friend leaves, it’s just the two of you again.

“Where’s this energy coming from?” You ask with a small smile, cleaning glasses.

“I was just told some great news,” he replies with a grin, something you’re not used to but not exactly opposed to seeing, “and I have to ask you something before I make the final decision.”

“Oh? Sounds awfully serious.” You leaned against the bar on your elbows, hands pressed against your cheeks with interest written across your face.

“Leave with me.”

It’s not a question, more of a statement, and you wonder if maybe he’d drank too much. But there’s no flush to his cheeks and you honestly can’t remember the last time you served him anything. He seems to notice the surprise on your face and takes a moment to elaborate.

“Me ‘n the blonde are gonna head out of here the next few days, but I really don’t think I could leave you in this town.” He watches as you move from leaning against the bar to standing straight, arms wrapped around yourself.

“What makes you think I wanna go?” You looked away from him. You weren’t opposed to the idea, but you weren’t sure you could just... leave. The uncertainty was clear in your voice.

“Because since I met you, you’ve looked like a lost soul.” He replied simply, “And I want to fix that.” He held his hand out to you.

“Would you give me that honor?”

You glanced at his hand, to the patrons around you, then back to his hand. Just as he was about to retract his hand, tell you it’s okay to deny him of this, you placed your hand in his.

The villagers warned you of a creature as dark as the night that lurked in the depths of the sea. One that took and killed as he pleased, always making an example of them and leaving a reminder to stay away from his territory.

You didn’t listen.

The beach they warned you about had the prettiest shells. Iridescent and untouched, with the majority being unbroken. You never saw the beast they spoke of. Never saw the shadows creeping along the edges of the water. So you continued to come back. Continued to come back to him. Slowly, you began making yourself more familiar with the waters edge, noticing how the shells seemed to become impossibly nicer. That’s when he struck.

You didn’t have time to process what happened before water filled your lungs. They burned. Everything burned. Your eyes, your nostrils. Then, it was over. You were practically thrown back to shore. A wet, heaving mess. You scrambled to your feet, stumbling in an attempt to create as much distance you could between you and whatever that was.

Circled bruises along your calf and upper thigh reminded you of that day for weeks to come.

But, bruises fade. Curiosity stays, dwelling inside you until you can’t take it anymore. So, you go back. Careful to avoid the waterline, skittishly staring into the depths. He wonders why you’ve come back. Surely, that warning was enough. It usually is. But, you seem different. Odd, in a way, but not unwelcome. It has been a while since he’s had a companion. Maybe he’ll keep you around for a while. Allow you and only you to stay on his shore. This, of course, would make you his. Mind, body, and soul.
