Some slightly less dress-related Weddingcon progress since we are a week and a half away! Featuring some centerpieces and our invitations (bonus points to anyone who can guess all of the fandom artwork). And then one dress photo because my rhinestone overlay arrived. Did you know that you could buy fully beaded mesh appliques? Neither did I! This is awesome because I really hate handsewing, but like flashy things.

Quick video of using a hot knife to trim lace! Poly lace - especially metallic - can start to unravel pretty bad when you cut it apart. But a hot knife seals up the edges so you can break a larger design into small pieces and trim away excess bits without worrying.Â

I picked this pattern to start with was it had a full, voluminous skirt without a waistline, it had nice princess seaming all throughout the garment, and we already owned it and I could find all the pieces.  The neckline is pretty different and I’m going sleeveless, but those are relatively easy things to fix even in the first muslin.
Once the basic test dress is assembled, it’s time to fit it... this takes forever, and I put that dress on and off probably five or six times to repin seams, darts, etc. Really glad I’m doing this in muslin and not 50 dollar/yard satin yet...
