Welcome to BmoreRatchet!
Whatâs goody? Welcome to BmoreRatchet, the tumblr for all things that couldnât possibly, well, be more ratchet.
I started this as a way of eliminating the need for saying âyou had to be thereâ for the chance encounters I have wandering through my city on a daily basisâŚweâve seen and experienced things you wouldnât believe, things we canât make up, voices we canât mimic.
As a Baltimore native, some of our greatest laughs and stories come from the glimpses of these moments. Like look, we KNOW weâre ratchet. We invented the term. Before there was ratchet, there was ghetto, hood, with an unbelievably Baltimore twist. Our humor has been conditioned by our conditions. What do I mean by that? Well, itâs simple: to the outside world looking in, it appears weâve been thrown to the wolves to take care of ourselves in the midst of drugs, crime, vacant properties. But what you donât see is the laughter that helps us to escape these surroundings, while placing us right in the middle of them. We donât flinch. We donât weep. We laugh it off, crack on ourselves and each other. We suggest you do the same. Before you ask why or how we find that funny, know that you donât even have to ask. You doin too much. Itâs not that deep forreal. Take that to Delaware.
This blog is dedicated to the survivors of a post industrial city, one that found its weave strolling down the Chesapeake Bay and possibly worn by a crab that somebodyâs aunt will later eat at the church crab feast. This blog is dedicated to every hood in Baltimore, every hustler, booster, OGs with the body oil samples, OGs with the LOOSE ONES, five year old still in the stroller, mother on the phone with BGE, uncle with the Natty Daddy on the back of the 23 bus, frozen cup lady who just raised her prices, teenager who spits their sunflower seed shells ALL OVER THE DAMN BUS STOP. I didnât create this to stereotype us. I did this to shed light and love on what has wrongfully been perceived as our darkness. They wonder how we do it. Theyâll never ever know.
Shine on. Hope you enjoy.
