I’m gonna be critical about pokemon fans for a second. I see one rhetoric used a lot which really boils my blood. I GUESS when a new game comes out and all the pokemon designs drop, there’s a lot of people right off the bat who criticize the mon designs. Makes sense. You get a lot of social media attention for both hyping up designs and shitting on them. But then,,, someone like me,, get this,, RETAINS the opinions they made about the designs *years after* because. Well. The design didn’t change. And I go online to see if anyone shares the opinion still and what other ideas they have about the designs. And I see so many people say “it’s been yeaaars the design should have grown on you by now” or “everyone was just hating on it at the beginning, nobody hates it anymore!” and similar.

You can warm up to designs for sure, especially when these designs are in a game called “have an adventure and form a bond with our designs” The Game. But the confidence?? The expectation?? That all bad designs will just be given grace by everyone given time??? Like people forget that pokemon are products of iterative concepts, artists and designers and people who probably research monster design for a living, and are just as susceptible to critique as any other piece of art!! Being in a video game doesn’t mean you can’t have an opinion on it, and you sure as hell can form some objective observations about certain designs. You’re not destined to end up liking every single pokemon. Some of them are just fuck ugly and poorly made.

Anyway this post was made with hisuian typhlosion and the pawmo line in mind and I’ll fight about it.
