#weareALLessential I have a lot of feelings building up inside, literally INSIDE while I #stayhome in #quarantine ^^ Some days it seems like we are living in a sci-fi novel~ Everyone divided by chance into groups who can continue to go out to work, stay in and work from home, or others who have no work at all... The majority of our social interactions happening through screens... Commercial food surpluses being mismanaged and destroyed rather than distributed to the hungry. A plentitude of excuses and so very few solutions... States actually hiding their medical supplies to avoid federal government seizure!* While we could be negotiating and sharing resources with other countries to benefit all our states, we are choosing instead to let the states figure it out for them selves... The White House is pouring all its focus on the economy, and congress is choosing to take advantage of crisis to give more tax breaks to the wealthy... "The tax cuts we're talking about here are things that have been on the corporate lobbyist wishlist for some time... When there's a crisis like this, there's a fairly narrow menu of what congress is going to choose from. And it's a menu that has in large part been shaped by years of corporate lobbying. It isn't any accident that these provisions have been on the wishlist of lobbyists for YEARS."** Meanwhile, workers are being forced to work in unsafe meat plants and Amazon distribution centers, continuing to put themselves in danger... Medical professionals are reusing single-use PPE to continue treating COVID patients... Β° Β° Β° Β° Β° So, today I borrowed some shapes from a mural I pass taking the @septa 7 bus north up 22nd Street*** I had this phrase echoing in my head, "We are ALL essential." And once I began carving these figures, I really felt the way we all support one another in stacking them up in various configurations. We really can figure this out. π·π·π· Β° Β° Β° *Google Maryland hiding testing kits * *Fresh Air Terry Gross interview with Jesse Drucker, April 30, 2020 (around 15:00 minutes in) ***Created by the late great artist, Keith Haring in 1987; restored by the Philadelphia Mural Arts program in 2013.
