I think, in canon, it would have gone different if Theon had remembered and realised that Balon Poopjoy was a butt and had stayed with Robb instead of trying to impress his dad. If Theon had stayed and realised that Robb was probably the only person in his life to ever show him affection, I think that during the Red Wedding, he would have literally shielded Robb's body with his own. The second things started to go bad, he would have done his best to shove Robb down and lay on him to try and keep him from harm. Theon would have taken as many arrows for that boy as was necessary. He would have been screaming at Robb to leave, to find a way out. Fuck logic, fuck his own life, fuck Waldick Frey, Robb needs to get out and live. Theon would be screaming, arrows in his side and bleeding out, but still screaming. Because this boy is the only one in the whole fucking North to ever treat him kindly. The only brother he ever knew that loved him and treated him like he loved him. His fucking best friend. And when Robb lost the will to live and allows Roose Fuckton to stab him through the heart, Theon would have lost his will to go on too. There’s no getting out, he’s already bleeding to death from the arrows he took, and now Robb is on the floor dead. He would have dragged himself to Robb and died.
