AUDIO SANS VIDEO, no. 1. Unaware of this movie but this record is *exactly* what you think it is, mostly what you hope it is. Eartha is just as mesmerizing as she is every Christmas on “Santa Baby” and it’s got the production you expect from 1958: perfectly, warmly recorded and the Dixielandish blues band is very well-rehearsed and conservative but excellent but never takes any chances. But get those background singers outta here! Fortunately they get sent home for most of the songs and we just spend our time with Eartha and the arranger. And when the chorus (same one? unclear) returns for the spirituals they do great.
