Cleopatra MAP
This MAP’s drama was one of the first to spark various Warriors fans to include Cancel Culture within the fandom. The MAP, according to the host, Kulta, was to have Riverclan set in Ancient Egypt, with the character and background designs reflecting this idea. Click Keep Reading to continue.
When the MAP call first came out, many people had claimed that it was culturally appropriating and stereotyping (Ancient) Egyptian culture. It was later argued by various commenters both of and not of the Egyptian culture that the MAP only included Egyptian attire and was (clearly) inspired by the culture, and was not appropriating it in any way. As the arguments continued to grow, it was revealed quite suddenly that a few people had been sending the host death threats because of the MAP and their supposed cultural appropriating. This is absolutely not okay, in both the moral and ethical sense, and this is when others realized that things were going too far. Many people began to defend the host, including those of the Egyptian culture. The majority of this group gave similar detailed descriptions of how and why the host was not appropriating the culture. Not long after the completed MAP came out, a few users on Twitter and other websites tweeted and posted that the MAP nor host should be supported. One of these users is Ephmeral Moth, formerly known as MoodleDoodle. In their tweet, they encouraged their fans to not send any support to the host or MAP, stating simply that [the MAP] is cultural appropriation. They went on to mention the host’s previous MAP, which featured the ship ThistleSpotted, a ship between Thistleclaw and Spottedleaf. Discussion on that MAP will be in another post. On the opposite side of the scale, we have the people who defend the host. Links to the defenses can be found at the bottom of this post. Shortly after the completed MAP was uploaded, Kulta pinned their comment, explaining the situation and why they seemingly ignored people’s comments and criticisms. The drama has died down as of recently, but with the completed MAP being out for around 6 months as of writing this, a large chunk of the comment section is either people mocking those that have accused the host of cultural appropriation and stereotyping, or people somewhat explaining the situation and giving their own opinions, giving support to Kulta.
