ok so originally this was a big long yap fest about how i think the arc will logically play out but Tumblr refused to post it so unfortunately, we're cliff noting it. -my biggest theory is that Suo's family is abusive, very controlling and responsible for whatever happened with his eye. -He lashed out at school as way to cope/regain some control (being a bully and cruel to the other kids) before being sent to his Master who saw what was really going on and helped him. -Overtime he begins to see his Master and Martial Siblings as his real family and learns to control his anger and recognize how awful his family is, leading to his hatred of cruel and childish people. (which extends to himself) Which leads to him creating his "mask" and refusing to tell people about himself. -His Master suggests he go to Furin (they're ex-Furin from Shitara's generation) and he agrees, forming genuine bonds with everyone but still refusing to remove his mask. -eventually something happens that leads to Suo leaving, believing he's disposable and they'll all move on. That's a lie, they're a wreck without him. (Remember when Obiki referred to him as the team's heart? Yeah.) -rescue arc intensifies, eventually Sakura and Suo finally have their fight (with Nirei getting involved too because he deserves to punch Suo) and after some time Suo's mask finally breaks and he gets hurt, -Their reaction to his backstory is "who cares?" and they easily accept all of him, finally convincing him to come back where Ume and his Master (who he also stopped contacting) throw a Welcome Back party. Complete with Suo being honest and eating with them. (exposing his horrible depth perception) Now onto more personal thoughts... -i dont think he'll be connected to the Yakuza. Its not too out there (there have been accounts of Delinquents fighting the Yakuza and it could be a small group is trying to setup in Makochi) but i feel like Suo's deal with be a bit more down to earth. -same with the slavery/human trafficking theories, i think the "emancipation of slaves" line is more metaphorical. -I do buy into the illness theories; he could be terminally ill (the constant association with the number 4) or have something like Crohn's disease that takes him out for large periods of time. Maybe he refuses to take surgery that will help because of the risks until Furin confronts him and convinces him to try and live. Its a success (making his illness more manageable) and after recovery he comes back. (i dont think Nii-senseis editors will let them kill of such a popular character) -i doubt it'd happen but i REALLY think he might be trans. Hiding his body because he wants people to think he's cis, dieting to delay puberty, changing his name so he can go to a Boy's school, doesnt make friends because his past friends were transphobic to him/treated him differently after he came out. -Oooogh what if Suo left because someone from his past threatened to out him, and when Sakura and Nirei catch up they do anyway. ("what would you Furin guys think if you had a girl hiding among you?" "Did you know you're friends with a tranny?") So Suo just...runs before he can see their reaction and is shocked when they don't treat him any differently. -his Master and Martial Siblings where the only ones to treat him like him, and when Furin does it he doesn't know how to handle it and breaks down ooogghhhhh my heart -also please let his Master be a good person i dont want a secret villain and Suo deserves a good adult in his life
