I don’t think so; I walk about 8 miles a day living here in Austin and I’m never as exhausted as I am when in New York. The walking is definitely more intense there! But there’s something else at work.

Hey. Hispanic woman here. That is such a bonkers mentality. Jyn at that moment finally understands what Cassian meant. My entire family is sitting in a theater getting ready to watch R1 for the third time. Puerto Rican dad. Cuban mom. Both have seen more Diego Luna movies than most of tumblr put together. I read this to them and they were either confused or laughing. Yes Star Wars needs more non-white women, though I can say as a light skinned brunette at least growing up they weren't blonde.
But to basically ignore a female lead on a women of Star Wars blog because a perceived slight that plenty of Lantinx don't see as one is messed up. But now I'm going to get popcorn because I have a movie to enjoy
I’m definitely not planning on ignoring Jyn or positive representations of her. She’s definitely still gonna have a prominent place on this blog with Leia, Padme, and Rey.
I know that response to characters from the same race/ethnicity can be varied and that anon’s view isn’t the only one. This is not unlike a situation from a couple of months ago when someone was uncomfortable with a white woman cosplaying as Ahsoka and using paint to make herself darker/oranger. The intent in using the “Rebellions are built on hope” quote and in cosplaying as a favorite character aren’t to be offensive or erase history, but for some it still has negative connotations that are hard to ignore, the intent is enough to make it a non-issue. At the very least, I want to stay aware of those connotations, even if there’s not a ton I can do to change the situation.
As a white woman, I try to take a backseat on issues of race and let people of color tell me when I might have messed up or missed an issue and if the ultimate decision is that Jyn’s use of that line isn’t as harmful as it can be made out to be, at least I listened to as much of the conversation as possible.

If Seb has a car, I will switch from hiding from him to actively seeking him out to (politely) yell "YOU ARE PARTNER OF THE PROBLEM!) But I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a car, because having one in NYC is DUMB. (I gave my car away when I moved three weeks ago. bliss)
