Paul Chapman was a less metallic guitarist than Ronnie Kayfield, but a much more chaotic human being, so it only made sense that Pete Way pulled him into Waysted after UFO disbanded.  The logical outcome was that the Waysted EP was a little more hard rock than Vices, but maybe even sleazier since Way, Chapman and Fin Muir seemed to live in dumpsters (they certainly looked that way).  So “The Price You Pay” was a rough and ready rocker (aided by fellow UFO-er Andy Parker, who brought his usual steadiness to the drums) that emanated sweat and grime out of its pores.  It was a bit meandering in spots but got by on the band’s scumbag charm as everyone leaned hard on the lovable rogue angle: Fin yowled and panted and leered in full creeper mode while the guys drunkenly hollered over a performance that could charitably be called shaggy.  That was part of the deal with Waysted: even their more consciously crafted tracks sounded like they crawled out of a sewer, so as long as one was willing to accept that as a feature tunes like “The Price You Pay” rocked out with fun and the good cheer that comes right before one too many.
