WAYNE MCCULLOUGH
warnings ✩° : mentions of being hurt, mentions of fighting scars, mentions of fighting, slight argument?, little angst?, wayne being .. wayne.
pairing ✩° : wayne mccullough x fem!reader
authors note ✩° : hey guys.. i’m back after sm months but i’ll try to be consistent, i need to get back on the grind...
After everything is settled with Wayne and Del's case and the headlines come out about the teenage Bonnie and Clyde runaways or the Brockton teen kidnappee turned accomplice or whatever - Someone from the friend group of party teens from episode 3 sends a photo of the thumbnail for an article about it to the group chat and captions it siblings or dating final boss
Wayne takes Del's hair down when they're making out so he can run his hands through it. Sometimes he leaves with her hair tie on his wrist. Send tweet.
In the show because Wayne is written to be portrayed as autistic I feel like we see a big aversion to physical touch which like neuro divergence aside makes sense because Wayne has been around so much violence as opposed to affection growing up.
And Sgt. Stephen Geller is so real for the (kind and gentle) way he absolutely reads him in episode 10 because no you are not a barbarian you are made of love
Bc even in episode 1 he's so receptive to it the moment he feels safe with someone
The second time he meets Del he doesn't mind sitting close to her, and she kisses him on the cheek and he smiles, he sits still in the evening when Gail patches up his face, he roughhouses with Orlando on the way home because that's how he shows and receives affection really. All he has is love for other people.

Ok yeah I think Wayne would get Del's name tattooed on him and she has a very love/hate relationship with this fact. High key she hates that he did it but well what's she gonna do now? Maybe it's kind of cute. Or it would be if she didn't think it was so inherently stupid.
then one day its hot and he's in a tank top and just doing regular shit with her name on him and she's like ok maybe this isn't so bad
thank you so much for the marriage head cannons!! I can’t wait for the part two
let's get miscellaneous
wayne's ring gets stuck on his finger within the first three months of wearing it
they actually didn't tell like anyone in their life that they got engaged, much less married, except for their close friends
Maureen makes her monthly call and asks if Wayne and Del have been up to much and he's like,, no not really. .... oh we got married.
she freaks out
One of Del's work friends does a double take one day when she sees Del in the break room, ring finger visible.
"what'cha got there?"
"... coffee."
despite how they were living pre-adulthood, their home is remarkably clean for a number of reasons
the main one is just that acts of service is a fundamental of their relationship on both sides
like oh my wife's really stressed right now I should clean up the dishes and the counters so she doesn't feel like she has to when she wants to get a coffee or something because i love her
my husband's gonna be really tired when he gets home from work maybe I'll do some decluttering around the house so he can just feel relaxed when he's home bc i love him
but also I think Del guilt cleans
like
particularly when they're younger, she's often frustrated for a variety of reasons and the world is shit and she can be angry and sometimes she gets a little snippy because of that
and Wayne knows that it's just her frustration building up and nothing to do with him so he kind of just wanders off till she cools down
but she feels AWFUL every time she does because he's really good at not lashing out at her like ever ever and she loves him so much
and as above, it's easier for her to just like do some chores to decompress and she just wants to feel like she's not making his life harder
but she says sorry and he says thank you and at the end of the day they cuddle up on the couch and watch like Law & Order SVU or something
I think they're the kind of couple that watch TV shows and movies together,
the most heated argument they'll have had during any given week is usually because someone started a show that the other wanted to start together
They watched Squid Games together when it came out and Wayne watched like 30 minutes of an episode before realising Del was asleep.
She huffed and puffed about it for the rest of the day.
I think they'd want to be parents one day
I don't know if that's a hot take or like what
but I think they're both made up of a lot of love and protective instincts
and Wayne as an adult is sooo girldad coded
I also just really like @random-gay-writer's Cool on ao3, Dawn is so real 2 me
they're weird and kind-hearted so kids love them
I think they end up going on more dates when they're married than they did when they were dating
which mathematically makes sense but I mean on average
Cause being an adult means they have a lot less time to just do stuff together
obviously they live together but sometimes it's nice to go out for dinner together instead of having dinner on the couch together
like either way is fine and wonderful but it's just nice to have time set aside to do something new or unusual.
At some point in his adult life Wayne started going for runs in the morning bc he's an early riser and needs an outlet like he gets the zoomies sometimes and needs to do something physical now that he's not beating the shit out of people anymore
And at some point she asks him if she can join
So most days, not all of them because she doesn't particularly enjoy getting up at 6 in the morning and in fact is quite tired very often, she gets him to drag her out of bed so she can spend that time with him
It's actually really great
just walking and being one with whatever environment they're in and talking to each other
watching the sun rise eating breakfast muffins on a bench together
I think as a married couple whenever they have fights they instill a sort of rule where they have to hold hands the whole time
It builds mostly unconsciously
Del is prone to storming off and Wayne needs something to do with his hands or he's worried he's gonna break something
So one night, they're like 26 and they're arguing about whether or not they're going to some get-together a friend of a friend is having and it's not that severe but Del is getting more and more overwhelmed and so she goes to grab her jacket
and Wayne just takes her hand. and doesn't give it back.
which helps soothe that frustration because now she's just confused and amused and slightly softened by the touch.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Don't go."
Her stance deflates a little and she sets her jacket back down.
"Okay. I won't."
...
"You planning on letting go?"
"Not yet."
And they have the rest of that conversation there.
it works because it reminds them that they're still a team. It helps remind them that they're with someone who they can be soft around and that they love and care about
they don't fight super heaps or anything but it starts becoming precedent to the point where Del initiates it whenever things are turning from a disagreement to an argument
it just helps them feel secure.
When they're a lot older, by which i mean like middle-aged, I like to think they have a vow reading because they kind of actually didn't write any
because they were pretty young and didn't want it to be a whole big thing
And they have a lot more people in their lives then, maybe more family,
maybe even a kid that would sooo want to go to a wedding-like ceremony for them
they actually own formal clothes
they're doing good.
