Wayne pulls out the flowers he’s been planning to give her and Kathryn grins with a feisty gleam in her eyes. She remembers the day they’ve met. Her father brought her in to get acquainted with running the shop one day when she was barely out of high school. Wayne came in with his father for a quick pastry and coffee.
She remembers thinking she’d like to see him out of that uniform as well, but in the two years since then, they’ve barely ran into each other, despite living in the same city. She did hear from someone who knew the guy that he was in a relationship with someone, but obviously, that didn’t pan out.
Then a few weeks ago, he started coming into the coffee shop regularly, and to her delight, nod only did he notice her, but he was flirting up a storm with her. And Kathryn was wondering how long it would take him to take the next step. But Wayne boy seemed to be one of those polite types. Sometimes, she really wished he was a bit more straightforward, or she’ll have to make all the first moves.
But the flowers were a good sign, yes.
Wayne: I was thinking, maybe we can go somewhere when you’re done here? If you’re not too tired?
Kathryn: As long as it doesn’t involve coffee and customers, I’m in.
Wayne: They’ve got a midnight showing of Die Hard at the park and you did say you like those films...
Kathryn: You remembered? That’s so sweet. I’m free in 10 minutes.
Wayne: Great! Oh, cool. I’ll wait for you outside.
And he almost goes, but her disappointed expression halts him. Realizing his mistake, he does his best to correct it.
As he pulls away from the kiss, she’s grinning ear to ear.
- Thought you’d never do it. So, am I right to consider this a date?
