the waxeye is a small passerine bird named for the ‘waxy’ white ring around its eye. this particular bird was photographed by holly neill, who was surprised by the bird’s coloration being similar to that of a canary - the bird has a rare mutation called leucism where it does not produce pigments normal for the species.
