Monday has finally rolled around, and with it a new wave of beats and bands to talk about.
Since it is Monday, I thought we would start off our week with a bang, and thus the Cat will showcase Sleepwave.
This alt-rock band hails from St. Petersberg Florida and was founded the Spencer Chamberlin, who you might know as the lead vocalist for the former metal-core band, Underoath. Underoath disbanded in 2012, but played their last show in 2013, where Chamberlain announced that he would be starting a new band- Sleepwave.
Sleepwave released their debut single- “Rock and Roll Is Dead and So Am I” in late 2013. Sleepwave went on tour at the beginning of 2014 as a supporting act for Taking Back Sunday and The Used. In July 2014 Sleepwave signed with Epitah Records and released songs “Through the looking Glass and “The Wolf” which were a good glimpse into the intention of their debut album then released, in September 2014.
Broken Compass retains the heart of metal-core music while adding more melodic tones throughout the album. It still has that “energetic vibe” that will give you an adrenaline rush; but for those who were fans of Underoath, the message is clear: Sleepwave is not interested in following the same path; the injection of electronic atmosphere even in their first song “Paper Planes” sets the tone for a new experience.
Broken Compass has a very strong sound, it is force and full body, and sometimes it feels like a wall of music that smacks you in the face, but it’s guaranteed to wake you right up.
In 2015, Sleepwave went on tour in support of their debut album; they also opened for Armor for Sleep, who was on a celebration tour for their 10th anniversary of their 2005 album.
If you want a non-caffeinated caffeine rush, turn up the volume on our Sleepwave WCOD.
