Tonight's buzz: Wathens Kentucky Bourbon As I said in my previous post, I visited the new Liquor Barn to get some images of the bourbon selection for the blog. While doing so I spoke with Matthew, the General Manager. During our conversation we talked about all of their current Single Barrel picks. He mentioned he was very proud of the barrel they picked of Wathens. With the price being right, I decided to go for it and give it a try! The nose on this is very inviting. It's sweet, fruity and full. The sweetness comes through very much in the taste. When giving it the ol' Kentucky Chew I picked up caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak and hints of sweet fruit. There is a burn that is strong at first on the back end but it gets smoother as you sip. I added a couple drops of water to see what flavors would become more predominant. I picked up much more of the charred oak when adding water and of course making the finish slightly smoother. Overall I am very pleased with this Single Barrel of Wathens. I picked this up for $34.99 at the new Liquor Barn on Shelbyville Rd. If you want to try this barrel, you'll get it there folks!
