Since I’m online on PC to apply for something related to my university studies, I figured I could also upload my very late Healthy Kuro Secret Santa present for @izumimiyamura (I’m so so sorry for the wait)
Prompt: midford siblings being cute together
If anyone were to ask Edward Midford what he cherished most in life, he would answer without hesitation. His sister. Her joy, her comfort, her health. His sister. Elizabeth. From the first moment he saw her, when he was just about three years old, he had adored her. She was one of his earliest memories, small and sweet, and he, young has he had been, had vowed to always protect her. Now at age 17 that hadn’t gone quite according to plan, but it didn’t matter.
Regardless of how strong she was, she had always been and would always be his adorable little sister, and if he couldn’t protect her physically any better than she could herself, he would most certainly protect her emotions and honour. Not that this had always been easy either, but he had certainly tried.
For the past three days, Lizzy had been in a mood.
Edward had only managed to gather clipped explanations, Lizzy sullen over something involving herself that wasn’t cute, and then something about ill-fitting new shoes from a very flustered Paula. He could guess well enough what had happened, that there had been a mistake in the measurements of the shoes, and he didn’t need any more prompting than that.
So there they were in a sitting room, in matching white clothes with pastel pink trim, opposite each other at a small table filled with delicate lunch treats and fresh tea. It had been a very long time since he and she had sat together like this, but Edward knew that Elizabeth had always liked (and probably would always like) tea parties, be they real or imagined. It was the cutest thing he knew how to organise, too.
“Oh Sir Edward, might you be so kind as to pass the cream?” Lizzy said, voice effected with overly false politeness, her eyes glittering in amusement.
“Why certainly, Miss Elizabeth,” he returned, passing the little bowl with pinky out.
She giggled softly, delicate hand rising to cover her mouth, while Edward felt his own spirits rising in turn. She was absolutely darling, he thought, and he’d think it as many times over as he wished, for it was the truth. Darling, darling, darling. And he had made sure everything here was as darling as her, all matching and complimentary to the room he had chosen and their clothes. You just couldn’t stay ignorant to those sorts of things when you had a sister as wonderful as her.
Having taken a small teaspoon of cream to sweeten, Elizabeth’s eyes flicked down pensively to her small cup of tea, as her hand lowered to join the other in her lap, and Edward’s breath caught in his throat. Had this not worked to cheer her up?
“Thank you, brother,” she said softly, looking back up to him with a small, genuine smile, and Edward released the breath he had held.
If anyone were to ask Edward Midford what he cherished most in life, he would answer without hesitation. His sister, and that smile, sweeter than anything else in the world.
