I am currently locked out of AskDawnAndVern.
So, here we are. I don’t really know how many of you even will have read the note on the last post of ask Dawn and Vern, probably not very many. But those of you who have come around to read this and have been wondering exactly where the updates have been, well now you know. Or rather you will know shortly.
It’s a long story, but I’ll cut to the quick. Due to a technical mishap, I was forced to clear my cache on chrome. Naturally I didn’t think this would be a big deal, as I had all my site passwords set aside for easy review. However, when I tried to sign in to AskDawnAndVern, I was asked for an ‘Authentication Code’. This was something for the life of me I was pretty sure I had never set up. And even if I had, it would have been set up so long ago that I no longer have the corresponding phone. So naturally, I couldn’t get in.
I took several tries to contact customer support for tumblr, mostly due to the system repeatedly failing to send it out. However, their response was frankly...dismissive and less than helpful. In all honesty it sounded as though they barely read what I had written, instead directing me to the tumblr FAQ on Two-Factor Authentification, in which nothing contained helped with my issue.
After that, with the help of some patreon members we managed to track down an actual phone number for tumblr. However, the number, which was listed as being in NY, comes up as a Georgian number, and directs to a rather...sketchy answering machine. I mean, it literally says “Thank you for calling Tumblr, we aren’t available right now, please leave a message.” Like it’s someone’s personal phone line. No phone tree, no automation, nothing.
I called at various points during the day, across multiple days, but only ever got the machine. I did leave a message eventually, but surprise, surprise, I got nothing. Again, I tried to send out another support message to tumblr in the hopes of getting someone else at support who actually seemed to care, but aside from an automated reply mail telling me my message was received, I went ignored once again.
So where does that leave “AskDawnAndVern”. Well, dead at the moment. I can’t upload anything to it, I can’t access it. Leaving a note on the most recent post is the only way I can even hope anyone will see this message in full. But is it going to stay dead? Well of course not.
Going forward, I ask you guys keep an eye on my twitter. https://twitter.com/Wastedtimeee2 for updates on the ongoing situation. There is NSFW content on there, so just a warning.
I also considered using this blog to continue AskDawnAndVern, but I really think this is the final straw for me and this dying platform. AskDawnAndVern has needed a format update for some time, something better than Tumblr’s terrible archival system. So I’m looking into site builders that can help me facilitate a new and improved version of the ask blog. Something with an independent email, a comic style archive system that allows for blog posts as well, And an easy to navigate archive.
That said, if any of you wish to reach out, or have suggestions, feel free to contact me on twitter or on this blog. I’m not very technically savvy anymore in terms of website construction, so help to point me in the right direction would be super appreciated. Thank you,
