          “I’m not going to tell you I told you so -- but I really DID tell you so,” she said with a sigh, dropping down onto the nearest tree stump. The villagers living near the stargate were -- as it turned out -- not at all friendly. A fact which Vala had mentioned to her valiant colleagues before they’d arrived. A fact which had also gone UNHEEDED. Apparently, her assurances that they were suspicious of outsiders (especially of those caught stealing a few worthless trinkets) wasn’t enough to abort the mission. Maybe they just don’t like THIEVES, Daniel had said. Well! Now they understood. And they had the shower of rocks thrown at them to prove it. 

           Arms crossed over her chest, Vala glanced back at the other woman. “I do believe now is the part when you ask me how I got away safely the FIRST time I visited this crummy little world...”

Save a life, kiss a doctor

“What?”

His heart is pounding so hard in his chest that he’s sure it’s going to burst. It’s been years now-- YEARS-- that he’s harbored a secret attraction to Sam. He’s never let it slip, not once-- and yet, she must know. How could she not know? Furtive glances, caught more often than he’d like to admit-- little touches here and there, the slightest of contact that utterly electrified him. It feels childish to even think about, but somehow here they are, and he’s not quite sure he’s heard those words come out of Sam’s mouth.

“Sam? Are you alright?”

On instinct he recalls all the times their behavior has been ALTERED by circumstances. Strange alien viruses, shapeshifting imposters, mind-altering technology-- there are few things they haven’t seen before, and now all of the possibilities are running through Daniel’s head at warp speed. This can’t be right. She can’t possibly mean--

She gives an infinitesimal nod over his shoulder and at the sound of footsteps her meaning becomes clear. It’s a cover, a distraction. Hiding in plain sight. Heart in his throat, he presses her back against the wall and kisses her as if his life depends on it. 

                               (It DOES.)

Maybe it’s just the inherent danger of the situation, but he could swear there’s a SPARK between them. She kisses him back with more fervor than is necessary, her fingers gripping at his hair and his shirt and everything she can get her hands on. Her nails scratch the sensitive skin of his scalp and he shivers, unable to help the way that his grip tightens on her hips.

And then the kiss ebbs. They realize too late that their pursuers are long gone, and they’ve got little to say for themselves by way of DEFENSE.
