π¨ Warriors of Virtue Episode 1 Cover Art π¨ Part 3 β β β β β β β β β π¨βπ»π€ART TIP: How to approach digital painting? Then vs. Now, what do I do differently? β β β β β β β β β In the beginning used digital tools to flood fill my hand drawn animation line drawings and maybe add a shadow layer before I tried digital painting. β In my initial painting efforts, a part of my brain tried to repeat the process; fill the color underneath or above the drawing layer using the regular blush and smudging the shape into submission. β
Today, I forget that Iβm using a digital medium and approach painting as if I was working on a canvas. I begin by setting up the background color and adding texture to it to create depth (I will show you this in a future video). Drew Struzan (@drewstruzanart) adds a lot of splatter, because the texture makes his drawings look like he spent hours working on them instead of mere minutes. (If you can, watch him paint the Hellboy Poster.π) Then, I layer my sketch on top of the background painting in the opacity only high enough to allow me to see the line. I also have an invisible sketch layer with 100% opacity above that layer. This layer will allow me to go back to my original drawing when I need to. I paint between these two layers using ~ a 75% fill an 75% opacity brush with pen sensitivity turned on. I also make sure I choose one of the textured brushed β itβs all about the texture... As I paint, I adjust the fill and opacity the way I would if I was working with real paint. β β β β β β β β β π€Do you have a favourite painting brush? β β β β β β β β β I purchased a bunch of brushes, but I mostly use one of the square textured ones that came with Photoshop, or I create my own. β β β β β β β β β . . . #digitalpainting #timelapseart #paintingprogress #arttips #warriorsofvirtue #mfa_wofvβοΈ #fantasyillustration #epicfantasyart #bookcoverart #fantasybookcover #wizardart #paintingmagic #thenandnowart https://www.instagram.com/p/BupT0qxl4d0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18mp2jl64hntg
