Actually weve discussed smth like this in class a while ago bc like brazil can be a little removed from the sense of belonging with The Latine Countries simply bc of the language barrier and bc the most common association is latino = hispanic (although i dont know how that "sense of kinship w other latinamerican countries" works for ppl of like venezuela chile peru equador etc mostly bc im not from any of these places so i cant say for sure if its a Brazilian Thing specifically) and i can say that most ppl ive talked to in my country arent going to see themselves as like. Oh yes im latino its a big part of my identity. I mean ofc there are exceptions too and its not like its a common topic of conversation for me so i couldve just missed ppls feelings on the matter tho. Idk if ppl in other latam countries woulld or if its smth more common just in relation to like the international community ie. if youre online or travelling or moving to another country

I personally would say im latino yes i feel like its relevant though if you asked me how i define my race proper i would give you something along the lines of "light skinned black person". Technically im afro-latino but idk that doesnt come up that way a lot ig? Although thats also true

The Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard series specifically vol.3 Throne of Glass although from what I remember it's more captivity than torture

There is also A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab which is not all that whump-focused but they have a 'soul-bonded and if you feel pain i also feel your pain' thing either from book 1 or book 2 onwards (theres 3 volumes) and which I find pretty neat

And I'm also going to be super predictable and say Percy Jackson specifically Heroes of Olympus (sequel series) bc in vol.4 (The House of Hades) they go to literal ancient greek Hell so if thats not whumpy idk what it is. It is a very long way to get to The Whump Part however.

And hmm i haven't read it and i have heard mixed reviews on the thing but I cant say for sure bc like. i havent read it. But Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat seems like a p whumpy novel. It does seem to have like sex and sexual assault so watch out for that check it up just to be sure

Oh and The Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir is not that whumpy but it is awesome and wonderful and they have a magical battery thingy. Which based. It's kinda angsty. I rlly love it. But that's probably not what you're looking for so

There is also Re:Zero which is a manga BUT it is a novel first and foremost and the main character has a death loop power and he dies tortured a couple times 👍 bonkers. Idk a lot more if anyone has recs I would like to know them too 0_0
