Now, onto my theory about the Tau being a Dwarf star:

Aside from it being kind of a convenience for the devs, lore wise, it just makes sense.

Not only does it open the door for later lore, but it also stays true/adds to what we already know/theorised.

We know that the Void either cuts through or surrounds Tau, depending on what theory you believe. I believe that the Void cuts through Tau, acting almost like a bridge to it, kinda like what it does for the Railjack. In my opinion, that's how the Zariman got caught in its Web- in this case, the 'web' was more like railing. In fact, I'd go so far as to argue that even if Wally didn't interfere with that jump, it was still bound to tumble off that bridge.

Regardless, there are quite a few ways it can be read, but, again, due to personal convenience, I'll only cover two possible theories:

1. The Very Hungry Sentient

We know that for sentient 'ships' like Paragassa to work, they need a lot of fuel that they get from consuming stars. It's also hinted at Tau not being the first system to be colonised by the Orokin. Maybe the star in Tau fell victim to a hungry Sentient ship, returning back to our Solar System. In theory, I don't think that the Sentient ship would consume the full star, just most of its energy and fuel, leaving behind a husk of what once was a magnificent low-mass star.

2. Wally, The Very Hungry Space Entity

In his latest viait, Baro mentions that:

"Brooding gulfs are we beheld by that which bears no name. Its heralds are the stars it fells, the sky and earth aflame."

I feel like it's important to remember that the Void is a living entity and, therefore, must require an energy source. It's also worth noting that Wally is its chosen manifestation, it's personification, to communicate with/to us, rather than a separate entity.

On that note, Tagfer says something about Wally basically being like a newborn child; confused, emotional, and experiencing the world the way we see it for the first time (valid reaction, btw). All growing systems require an energy source, and the Void is no different.

I think that, if the Void is indeed a/the bridge to Tau, maybe it passed through the system's sun as it reached out, consuming its outer layers, leaving only the core.
